From the Boarding Captains

Hi everyone, my name is Brianna Cunningham and along with Steven Wiech we are your 2024 Boarding Captains. I would just start off with a little about myself. I started my boarding journey in Year Seven but have been around Boarding since my older sister started in 2015. Being around boarding for so long has made me so grateful for the amazing community we have here. As a leader, I am excited to be given the opportunity to give back to and continue enhancing, like the brilliant leaders before me, the community that has given me so much.

I’m from a crop and sheep farm in the small town of Tambellup. Coming from a small primary school, moving to Grammar was one of the scariest and most exciting moments of my life. Living through all the emotions of becoming a boarder and the big challenges of not living at home allows me to relate to my peers as we go through this journey together. The continuation of peer mentoring allows new boarders of all ages support and a friendly face. Something I really valued when I first moved here.

Some of the best friendships I have made have come from Boarding. Boarding is such a special place as you meet so many people with different backgrounds, interests, and stories. I love all the special moments and memories that come from living with your best friends. Making teas and coffees in the kitchen, watching movies in the lounge, the late-night study sessions in the Breaksea fishbowl, and many more everyday activities cement the bonds you create with your peers.

I love getting out and about. I am very passionate about music, sports and the outdoors. You can normally catch me playing my guitar, having a hit of tennis or running around a hockey field. My love of nature sends me walking, swimming and snorkelling at the many fantastic beaches Albany has to offer. Outdoor Ed has more recently had me hiking but I might have to have a break from that one since our recent camp (60km along the Bibbulmun) broke my spirit a little!

What Steven and I are most excited about contributing to, are many varied rec activities and whole boarding events. Rec and events such as Masterchef and the quiz night are some of the highlights of boarding. The location of our school is very unique and special as we are close to some of the best beaches in Western Australia. I hope to encourage boarders to take the many opportunities to participate in rec and enjoy hanging out in nature with their mates. Don’t hesitate to let us or boarding staff know about your own rec ideas.

I hope everyone enjoys the final stretch of the school term as the test papers and harvesters come out for the end of the year.

Brianna Cunningham | Boarding Captain

Hello, my name is Steven Wiech and I will be working alongside Brianna Cunningham as your Boarding Captains for 2024. I will first tell you a bit about myself. I grew up in a small town called Lake King which is about three hours Northeast of Albany. We own a family farm where we grow crop and graze sheep. I enjoy hockey in the Winter just as much as basketball and rowing in the Summer. Whatever is thrown at me, I am able to catch and no matter the problem, I am able to solve it.

I came to boarding in 2019 and have been here ever since. I am respectful towards everyone and always show initiative. I look forward to working with the boarding staff and communicating with my fellow boarding community. I strive to make boarding the best place it can be while focusing on school which is the reason I am here.

This past year I have been an Eclipse House Leader. This has involved helping out the Supervisors when needed and always looking out for my friends. Now I have a chance to connect with the younger houses as well. I will share my knowledge to ensure that the younger people have a great time in boarding.

I believe that boarding is a great place, but it isn’t quite as good as home. I personally love the outdoors. Whether it be swimming in the ocean or hitting the hockey ball on the turf I enjoy it. Find something you love doing, drag a friend along and make memories that will last a lifetime.

I hope everyone has a great holiday and an even better harvest.
