2026 Autumn Gala Concert
Join us in celebrating the musical achievement and commitment of our instrumental music students at our Annual Autumn Gala Concert, Wednesday 6th May at 7.00 pm at Boucher Hall!
Term 2
The music department has its usual busy time ahead in Term 2. We ask that families check the dates of performances and enter them on their calendars.
At the end of this term, we have the East Gippsland Music Festival in Orbost. During the week ensembles are bused to Orbost to rehearse and there is an evening concert on Thursday 25th June in the Orbost school hall. This is an important event in the school calendar, and we would like all music students to attend.
ANZAC Day Performance
The first senior band performance for the year was at the ANZAC day service last Friday. The senior band gave stirring performances of Abide with Me, Advance Australia Fair and I Vow to Thee My Country. Again, we were lucky to have Cooper perform the Last Post and Rouse magnificently on the cornet. Congratulations to the band on their fine performance and the efficient way they set up.
Information Evening
Once again, we can be very proud of our music students and their performance at the Information Evening. Rebecca and Sylah helped hand out brochures and played in the Year 7 hub. The senior band performed during the formal presentations and our new music captains gave beautiful speeches on how important the music program has been for them. Meanwhile, everyone from junior band, string ensemble and senior band helped with the movement of gear and setting up.
Ensemble Rehearsals
A reminder to families that ensemble rehearsals are the most important part of what the music department does. It is very important that students attend them. If for some very good reason a student cannot attend, the hub needs to be informed so the attendance records are set straight.
Music Practice
As we know, learning a musical instrument requires some individual practice. For students struggling to find spaces and time at home, the music centre is open from 7:30am Monday-Thursday and has many practice spaces. Remember that 10 minutes is better than nothing and that even a little practice goes a long way. Practice makes progress and there is nothing more motivational that progress.
