Principal's Message

Dear Parents and Carers,

Welcome back to Term 2 at Bairnsdale Secondary College. It has been a busy term so far and is gearing up to be an exciting and eventful time for everyone at our College. There is a lot going on this term, ranging from Music performances, Athletics and Interschool Sport to Career Profiling and Subject Selection, to name a few.  It’s a perfect opportunity for students to explore new interests, strengthen their skills, and make meaningful connections, building on the foundations of Term 1.

At Bairnsdale Secondary College, ANZAC Day always holds great significance, and this year was no exception. Our student leaders led a heartfelt and respectful service at our College on Friday 24th April, drawing on their own family history, creating a ceremony that truly honoured the sacrifices made by Australian and New Zealand Armed Forces personnel over the years, both at home and abroad.

A special thank you to Raymond Rock who joined us from the Bairnsdale RSL, along with our students from the 313th Army Cadet Unit in Bairnsdale, former students and the Bairnsdale Secondary College Senior Band for their participation in our ceremony. Also, a shout out to the students who attended, showing great respect, one of our core values at the College.

The commemorations continued on the 25th April, with students and staff attending the ANZAC Day march in Bairnsdale.

Thank you to the staff and students who took part in our ANZAC Day services. Your dedication and participation made this a memorable occasion, and we are incredibly proud of you all.

This week, we were visited by guest speaker and bestselling author Luke Kennedy who gave a raw and relatable presentation to our Senior Students. With a powerful story of personal transformation, Luke captivated the year 10, 11 and 12 cohorts at the College, inspiring them to overcome challenges, build confidence, express kindness, and strive to reach their full potential.

On Wednesday evening we hosted our Information Evening for prospective 2027 Year 7 students—and what a night it was! The feedback from those in attendance has been overwhelmingly positive, with many families commenting on the welcoming atmosphere, the enthusiasm of our staff and students, and the breadth of programs available. It was a wonderful opportunity to connect with future members of our College community, and we look forward to welcoming many of these families in the years ahead. Thank you to everyone who contributed to its success and special thanks to the families in attendance for supporting our event.

Here is a message from our Junior College Principal, Belinda Anderson.

With more than 300 community members in attendance, the sense of pride in our school was evident, and families left feeling genuinely excited and reassured about what we offer.

One of my favourite parts of the evening was our outstanding student leaders. Their poise, warmth, and authenticity set the tone from the outset. Our Year 12 Captains led our Year 7 student leaders with confidence and pride and they all looked amazing. Together, our students showcased the very best of our school, leaving a lasting impression on all who attended.

Next Wednesday 6th May we will be hosting our 2026 Autumn Gala Concert, celebrating our Music student’s dedication and commitment to their craft. It’s amazing to see the progress throughout their musical journey at the College and we look forward to another great performance. The Gala will take place at Boucher Hall from 7:00 pm, further details on the Instrumental Music page.

We’ve been fortunate to enjoy some beautiful Autumn weather, allowing us to extend the wear of our summer uniform; however as the weather cools, we remind our students to continue to wear our College uniform with pride. Our current uniform provides a variety of options to keep students warm throughout the day, including College-endorsed jumpers, jackets, and beanies. If there are any challenges with the uniform, we encourage you to reach out to the hubs, where staff will be happy to assist.

Thank you to all our parents and carers for your continued support of the students and staff at Bairnsdale Secondary College.

Sincerely,
