Kids Corner

The Kids Corner section of this fortnight’s newsletter features narratives written by Ishana (Year 3) and Sithuki (Year 4) as their pieces were selected to represent our school in the annual Rotary Club writing competition. Congratulations and well done Ishana and Sithuki and best wishes to you both!
My Life in Twenty Years – by Ishana (Year 3)
In twenty years, I will be 29 years old, living in Perth in a medium sized wooden house. It won’t be too big or too small, but perfect for me and my family. Inside my house, there will be a special room – my very own library. It will be filled with all of my favourite books, and I will sit in my comfy chair every evening, with a nice cuppa, getting lost in my wonderful fantasy stories.
Outside, there will be a beautiful garden full of colourful flowers, fresh fruits and healthy veggies. I love walking through it in the mornings, picking berries, bananas and tomatoes for breakfast. I’ll grow everything myself and take care of my garden while also teaching my kids how to keep it green and blooming.
I’ll be a famous tennis player, flying off to different countries to play in big tournaments. My smart watch will assist me with my daily schedule, give me fresh and healthy recipes, answer all of my questions, and even give me tips on how to play amazing tennis games.
Sometimes I’ll take the bus or train to get around, but I’ll also have a cool car with a built in snack storage, especially for my long adventure trips with my kids.
My home will be environmentally friendly with solar panels on the roof to power everything using sunlight. I want the Earth to be clean and green and full of nature for my family and everyone else.
This is how I imagine my life in 20 years – full of reading, tennis, family and happiness.
Let us hope for peace – by Sithuki (Year 4)
War, a dreadful event occurring in every nation, lives at stake, all because of our wicked sense of greed and hatred towards each other. Soon our planet will become World War III!
These days it’s not just war that’s happening, racism, a crime committed by many horrid people to make other’s feel like they don’t belong. This needs to stop! This piece of writing will define why only I, but everyone believes it should stop.
Firstly, why are innocent people losing their lives of our society’s selfishness?! How could we let our nations suffer?! We have been lied to?! They said they wanted as many people as possible to live on our planet, but the only thing war is doing is reducing our world population of unique and talented human beings that deserve to live with freedom! It’s all because we’re so self-centred. There is no such reason why such wonderful population’s lives are at risk right now!
Secondly, members of the public are being separated from their family and friends. Furthermore, it’s scientifically proven that children who are separated from their families grow up having depression, anxiety, and post-traumatic stress disorders.
Now let’s talk about racism…
Why are people being discriminated because of their race or the way they look?! People shouldn’t be questioning their own looks because someone rudely criticized them! We shouldn’t be proud that we are a certain race or culture. Why can’t we be judged based on our actions instead?!
Everyone has the right to be treated equally! If no one made a law that we have to be racist then why do some dastardly people just choose to neglect people when really, they’re the ones who are insecure and need others to not feel self conscious but to feel good about themselves. People ignore the fact that someone might be in pain from losing an invisible battle with others who only believe people because of their appearance. Be true to yourself, that’s the only way you’ll win in life.
In conclusion, we need to protest for a better society, a better world and a better future. We can’t let people fight a battle alone, whether it’s visible or not. So, if you’re with me, then it is time to make a difference.
