From the Year 6 Classroom

Dear Parents and Families,
We’ve had a wonderful start to Term 2, and Year 6 is already buzzing with learning and engagement across all areas of the curriculum!
Literacy
In Reading, we’ve begun exploring Us Mob Walawurru – a compelling novel that offers insight into Indigenous culture and perspectives. The students are already deeply engaged with the story and characters. In Writing, we’ve been focusing on factual recounts, with a special emphasis on the 1967 Referendum. This important moment in Australian history has sparked thoughtful discussion and curiosity among our students.
Numeracy
We have begun our unit on Fractions – exploring equivalence, comparing and ordering fractions, and applying them to problem-solving situations. Students are working hard and showing great persistence with these important concepts.
Religious Education
This term, our Year 6 students have been exploring the powerful message of the Resurrection and what it means for us today. Through Scripture, discussion, and creative activities, students have been learning that the Church is more than a building—it is a community of people called to live with love, hope, and faith.
Inquiry – students are enjoying the ‘Sudden and Extreme Changes to Earth’s Surface' unit, where they will investigating major geological and extreme weather-related events such as earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, tsunamis, drought, bushfires, floods and cyclones.
Boys to the Bush
Some year 6 boys have had the opportunity to take part in the Boys to the Bush program—an inspiring initiative designed to build confidence, resilience, and positive relationships. Through hands-on outdoor experiences, boys step outside their comfort zones, develop important life skills, and connect with strong role models. This program supports wellbeing, teamwork, and personal growth, helping our students thrive both at school and in everyday life.
