Watching Them Grow: The Green Team’s Stick Insect Journey!

There is a beautiful sense of wonder in the Green Team room lately as the children reconnect with some very special roommates - our stick insects! It feels like just yesterday we were marveling at how tiny they were, measuring a mere 3cm long. Through weeks of careful observation, feeding, and tracking their growth, the children have watched them transform into magnificent 15cm giants. AND we now have eggs!!

This long-term project has been an incredible way for the children to connect with the natural world, and we are so proud of how they have taken on the role of gentle caretakers.

  • Confidence & Agency: The children have become true experts, confidently guiding the insects and showing a wonderful understanding of how to handle them safely.
  • Kindness & Gentleness: It is incredibly heartwarming to watch their soft interactions. They naturally slow down their movements, extending steady, patient hands and treating these delicate creatures with the utmost respect.

This hands-on experience allowed the children to learn a lot about life cycles, empathy, and environmental responsibility. They are proving themselves to be wonderfully capable, compassionate little citizens who truly value the living world around them!

Parking at Curiosity

As I’m sure you all appreciate (with regular experience!), drop off and pick up time is a busy time for our school community, both in terms of car parking, and on the roads surrounding the school community. And with the Department of Transport and Infrastructure implementing a new 40 km/h speed limit on Montague Road out the front of our school, I thought it timely to share a few reminders about parking and driving safely...

** Curiosity car park (located off Hillary Crescent)

Please remember this car park is a one direction zone, entering to the left and continuing around until you reach the entry/exit again.  The speed limit is also 10 km/h (walking pace) to ensure the safety of those walking in this area.  Please take note of lines indicating car park and accessible spaces.

** Street parking on Montague Road (Curiosity side)

Please ensure you do not park or stop on the white diagonal lines (painted island).  This area is strictly not for parking, as it is designed to improve traffic flow, allow entry and exit from roadways and to improve driver line of sight.

** New speed limit on Montague Road

The reduced speed limit on Montague Road will apply only on school days during the morning and afternoon periods: 8:00am to 9:30am and 2:00pm to 4:00pm.  Please be mindful of this new speed limit change, particularly as you exit Dwight Street turning right onto Montague Road.

** Private Car Park

Please also note that families should not be parking in the car park of the shops next door.  When families use this car park it makes it difficult for paying customers to easily access the services they need.  This is a private car park and use by school families for drop off or pick up is not permitted.

** Road Rules

When you are stopping and parking around schools, knowing and following all the road rules is essential for pedestrian and road user’s safety, so please take the time to.

Read the signs  |   Check for lines  |  Know the rules

Thank you for your help in creating a safe car park environment for our community, and all users of these roadways.
