MATHS - our focus in maths has turned to measurement. We used a variety of scales to record some accurate measurements of items found in our room. We discovered that you need to use the appropriate type of scale, for the items you are measuring. We have also completed work on converting units of measurement and adding mixed units. 

READING- Throughout the term we have read a class serial story, "My Friend the Enemy" by Dan Smith. We have used this novel to facilitate discussions around ethical deilemmas and the influences and pressures that we face when making decisions. This week we have used the story to complete some Literacy Circle tasks to further our knowledge of the learning pathway that helps to improve the level of our work. We are deepening our understanding of the requirements of the tasks, and at the same time, deepening our understanding of what we read. 

WRITING - We are finailising our work on non-fiction texts with the creation of biographies about people we respect and admire and have made significant contributions to society. These will be assessed by our peers and feedback given to allow us to make improvements to our work in the future. 

We also wrote a letter from a character in our novel 'My Friend the Enemy" to the other main character. This demonstrated our understanding of the character's decision making and acted as an assessment of our unit of work relating to Ethical Dilemmas. 

Our grammar focus has been on the use of apostrophes. 

AUSLAN- Students completed some research into sign languages used in other countries and the ways in which they differ, or are similar to our own. We discovered some very interesting things and had a lot of fun demonstrating something of interest to the class. 

In preparation for the incursion next term based on the book "Being Indy" by Zoe Gaetjens, we read the story and created an illustration similar to those in the book. We enjoyed using charcoal based pencils as well as pencils of differing thicknesses and tones. Thanks to Liia, who helped guide us with pencil choice and how to create some different effects.
