I Sea I Care - Excursion 3

On Thursday 3rd of September, nine Grade 6 ambassadors took part in their third excursion as part of the I Sea I Care program, run by the Dolphin Research Institute.
The ambassadors travelled to Banyan Reserve in Carrum Downs, where they investigated how inland waste management programs can help prevent pollution and protect our waterways. They explored the impact that our everyday choices can have on the environment and considered ways we can all contribute to keeping our waterways healthy.
The students then investigated the diversity of aquatic invertebrates living within the wetlands through water surveys and testing. They also learnt how to use a Frog Identification app to survey and identify local frog species, developing their understanding of the important role wetlands play in supporting local biodiversity.
It was a fantastic opportunity for our ambassadors to build their knowledge of local ecosystems while developing practical skills in environmental monitoring and conservation.
Zoe Lau: “It was a fun, amazing experience. We learnt why it’s important not to litter.”
E-Dayne: “The weather was bad at first but we pushed through and had a great day.”
