During Term 3, our Year 10 students will begin the enrolment process for the Victorian Pathways Certificate (VPC), an exciting step towards planning for their senior secondary years.

What is the VPC?

The Victorian Pathways Certificate is designed for students who learn best through practical, applied learning and who are working towards employment, further education, training, or community participation.

Students in Years 11 and 12 undertake the following core VPC subjects:

• VPC Literacy – Developing practical reading, writing, speaking, and communication skills for everyday life, work, and further learning.

• VPC Numeracy – Applying mathematical concepts and problem-solving skills in real-world contexts.

• Work-Related Skills – Exploring career pathways, workplace expectations, and employability skills.

• Personal Development Skills – Building confidence, independence, community engagement, and life skills.

Wednesday Pathway Opportunities

VPC students have Wednesdays available to participate in a pathway program that supports their career goals and future aspirations. Students are expected to engage in one of the following:

• Vocational Education and Training (VET)
• School-Based Apprenticeship or Traineeship (SBAT)
• Work Experience
• Volunteer Work

Vocational Education and Training (VET)

GOTAFE offers a range of VET programs specifically designed for secondary school students. Applications open during Term 3.

Borinya's VET application process aligns with the GOTAFE application timeline and includes participation in work experience related to the student's chosen industry area. All VET applications require endorsement from Eamonn.

School-Based Apprenticeships and Traineeships (SBATs)

A School-Based Apprenticeship or Traineeship allows students to earn an income while completing their secondary education. Students combine part-time employment with training towards a nationally recognised VET qualification.

SBAT opportunities can be secured by:

• Approaching employers directly and completing work experience placements; or

• Applying for advertised apprenticeship or traineeship positions.

Work experience and volunteering provide valuable opportunities to gain firsthand insight into the workplace. Students may observe professionals in their roles, participate in workplace activities, or undertake practical tasks.

These experiences help students:

• Develop workplace skills and confidence;

• Build their résumé and employment readiness;

• Explore different industries and career pathways; and

• Improve their future employment opportunities.

We encourage all Year 10 students and families to start considering pathway options now so that plans are in place for a successful transition into 2027.

PLEASE NOTE: A minimum age of 15 is required for all of the above. Some considerations include are a resume, tax file number (TFN), unique student identifier (USI) and a bank account.
