Solo CAT

Students in the Ensemble program completed their Solo CATs over two big nights of performances in the PAC. There were many standout performances, and all students showed great resilience and performance poise to play in public. Congratulations to all students who performed, and many thanks to music staff who prepared their students so well for this assessment.

Winter Concert

Last Tuesday all our BHS ensembles performed at our annual Winter Concert. They gym was packed with supporters, and all groups presented well prepared and diverse items to entertain the crowds. Music Support group were busy all night selling hot drinks, snacks and items, raising money for our program. Huge thanks to Joel Gladman and the team for all they do to add to the community atmosphere at our music events. Thanks to Henry Spry for the best sound we’ve ever had, and most of all to the music staff who support our vibrant performance culture at BHS with such enthusiasm.

VCE performance Day – St Ignatius

On Saturday Finn Ibrahim, Asher Watts, Miranda Linton and Jeren Basangan performed part of their VCE program at St Ignatius College in Drysdale. This was a fabulous chance to perform works from their VCE program and to receive valuable feedback from VCE staff. Many thanks to Janice Wilding for organising this, and to Amanda Linton for supporting our students to perform.

Farewell to Conrad and Janice

At the end of this term, we farewell Conrad Nilsson and Janice Wilding, who have been with us since last March teaching Clarinet and Percussion. Both Conrad and Janice have contributed so much to our music program. Their comprehensive knowledge of their respective instruments has greatly enhanced the learning experience for our percussion and clarinet students, and they have made genuine positive connections with both staff and students. We will miss them very much and wish them both all the best in the future.

We are excited to welcome back Ashleigh Hunter next term, who will be teaching Clarinet and Percussion instrumental lessons, VET Year 1 classes, Singit and Singit Stars.

Staff Karaoke

Many thanks to Danniel Smith and the VM class for organising Thursday’s Staff Karaoke event. This was a great way to finish off the term, and wonderful to see those staff who got up and sang modelling our school values of resilience and opportunity!

VET Music @Barwon Club

On Monday and Tuesday VET bands from Years 1 and 2 performed at the Barwon Club for family and friends. All groups put on some fabulous performances, and best of all cheered whooped and hollered for each other in a great show of support for live performance. A big shout out in particular to Euan Shields and Wilfred Benntt, who stepped up to fill in for last minute student absences in two of the groups, we really appreciate you!

Many thanks to Megan McPherson and Danniel Smith for their support of the performances. These community events only happen at our school due to the amazing support of our VET staff.  Our students’ professional and polished performances caught the eye of the entertainment coordinator for Torquay’s Cowrie market, so watch this space later in the year for the chance to catch some of our groups performing at the market!
