Meddling kids

by Edgar Cantero

An entertaining blend of mystery and supernatural horror, Meddling Kids is a book that is guaranteed to satisfy anyone looking for a fun, action-packed read.

As teenagers, Kerri, Nate, Andy and Peter formed their own detective club in the small mining town of Blyton Hills, Oregon. There seemed to be an endless supply of mysteries and supposed ‘monsters’, but it always turned out to be a guy in a mask. Until one day something happened that couldn’t be explained – in the case of Deboën Mansion – a creepy, crumbling old house on an island in the middle of the foggy Sleepy Lake, just outside town. What happened inside that mansion couldn’t be explained away by logic, and it has haunted the four friends ever since.

Thirteen years later, our heroes have grown up and gone their separate ways. Whiz-kid Kerri is failing at university, tough-as-nails Andy is on the run from the law, horror nerd Nate is in a psychiatric hospital, and golden-boy Peter is dead. Tired of running from her problems, Andy gets the gang back together to confront the origin of their nightmares.

Meddling Kids is very enjoyable to read and crosses a couple of different genres – mystery, horror, supernatural, and adventure, so it will appeal to a wide range of readers. The characters are quite unique and relatable, and there are plenty of good action sequences to add to the excitement.

Aimed at older young adults, but okay for students in Years 7 and 8 with parental permission.
