Term 2 Wrap

As we wrap up the first half of the school year, I want to congratulate all our students on their efforts and achievements throughout Semester 1. Whether in the classroom, on the stage, on the sporting field, or through the many leadership, cultural and co-curricular opportunities on offer, our students continue to make Belmont High School a community we can all be proud of.

I hope everyone enjoys a well-earned winter break—take the time to rest, recharge and spend quality time with family and friends. We return for what promises to be an incredibly exciting Term 3, with the completion of our new Science and Health Centre drawing ever closer. This outstanding facility represents a significant investment in the future of our school and will provide our students with exceptional learning opportunities for many years to come.

Alongside this milestone, we look forward to continuing to create rich and diverse opportunities for every student to learn, grow and strive for the highest. I can't wait to welcome everyone back for another exciting term at Belmont High School.

Tuesday 28th July: Current Year 9 & 10 – 2027 Year 10 & VCE Subject selection interviews (No classes for current Year 9’s & 10’s)
Tuesday 4th August: BHS Curriculum Day (Student free day)
Tuesday 18th August: Student/Parent/Teacher Interviews (12:00pm-7:00pm)
Friday 21st August: BHS House Music Competition (Periods 5 & 6)
Friday 18th September: Final Day of Term 3

Winter Concert – Tuesday 16 June

Our annual Winter Concert was once again one of the highlights of the school calendar, showcasing the incredible depth of talent within the Belmont High School Music Program. With close to 200 students performing throughout the evening, the concert was a fantastic celebration of our young musicians.

The standard of performances was outstanding across all ensembles and reflected the countless hours of practice and commitment from both students and staff. The integration of our rock bands along with our more established concert bands was a real highlight

As always a huge thanks goes to our Music Team for the enormous amount of work that goes into preparing students and delivering an event of this quality. Their commitment continues to provide exceptional opportunities for our students to develop both their musical abilities and confidence.

We also wish our Senior Band all the very best as they travel to the Sydney International Music Festival during the holiday break. This is an incredible opportunity for our students, culminating in a performance at the iconic Sydney Opera House, a once in a lifetime opportunity. We look forward to hearing about their experiences when they return in Term 3.

Semester 2 Reports

Due to current Australian Education Union (AEU) industrial action, the Department of Education has advised that the Semester 2 reporting cycle must be completed without written comments. As a result, all teacher comments and sections that would normally contain a worded response have been removed from student reports.

For most students, the key information contained within the report will be:

Progression Points indicating student achievement against the Victorian Curriculum.
Satisfactory (S) / Not Satisfactory (N) results for subjects in Years 10–12.
Attendance information and other report data as applicable.

While written comments are not included in reports this semester, families can still access detailed feedback on individual assessment tasks through Compass. Teachers have continued to provide feedback on assessment tasks throughout the semester, and we encourage parents and carers to review this information with their child.

We understand that written comments are a valued part of the reporting process and appreciate your understanding regarding these circumstances.

Subject Selection and Pathways Planning – Term 3

The beginning of Term 3 marks an important period for our Year 9 and Year 10 students as they begin planning their learning pathways for 2027. This process provides students and families with the opportunity to explore subject offerings, discuss future aspirations, and make informed decisions about senior school programs.

Key dates for families to note are:

Thursday 16 July - Current Year 9 & 10 Students – 2027 Year 10 and VCE Parent Information Night & Subject Expo 4:30pm – 6:30pm

This evening will provide families with detailed information about subject offerings, VCE pathways, VET opportunities, and the subject selection process. Students and parents will have the opportunity to speak directly with teachers and learning area representatives about the courses available in 2027.

Tuesday 28 July - Current Year 9 & 10 Students – 2027 Year 10 and VCE Subject Selection Interviews

On this day, all current Year 9 and Year 10 students, together with their families, will attend individual subject selection interviews. These interviews are a valuable opportunity to discuss future pathways and ensure students are selecting subjects that align with their strengths, interests, and post-school goals. Please note that current Year 9 and Year 10 students will not attend regular classes on this day.

Further information regarding bookings, course guides, and interview arrangements will be distributed early in Term 3. We encourage all families to engage fully in this process as these decisions play an important role in shaping students' future learning and career pathways.

Respectful Communication

Belmont High School greatly values the strong partnerships we have with our families. Open, honest and respectful communication is essential in ensuring we work together to achieve the best outcomes for our students.

Our teachers take on a significant emotional and professional responsibility every day in supporting the learning, wellbeing and development of young people. We ask that all communication with staff reflects the same standards of respect and courtesy that we expect within our school community.

If you have concerns that are more significant in nature, I encourage you to direct these through your child's House Leader, the relevant Assistant Principal or to me as Principal, rather than directing strongly worded correspondence to classroom teachers. Our leadership team is here to support both families and staff, and to help work through complex matters in a constructive and respectful way.
