Dear Grade Three Families,

Happy end of term! We loved seeing some of you earlier this week at our open learning morning!

📚 In Reading, we have continued developing our skills in Monitoring and Questioning before, during and after reading. Students are learning to ask thoughtful questions that go beyond the text by using clues from the story and their prior knowledge. They are considering how characters might think, feel, or act in different situations and making connections to their own experiences. We have also begun learning how to skim and scan texts to locate important information quickly and identify key ideas.

✍️ In Writing, students have continued exploring different types of narratives, focusing on mystery and realistic fiction. They have unpacked the key features of these genres and have now practiced these features in their own narratives, continuing to develop their writing skills through careful planning, drafting, revising and editing. We have been loving the creativity and growth shown in their writing over the past few weeks!

🔢In Numeracy, students have been exploring fractions through a range of hands-on learning experiences. They have been learning about equal parts, including halves, quarters, thirds, fifths and tenths, and how these can be represented in different ways. Students have also been developing their understanding of the concept of ‘groups of’ by working with collections and dividing them into equal groups. These concepts are essential for their understanding of number relationships, multiplication, division and problem-solving.

🔍 In Inquiry, students have completed their presentations on celebrations and commemorations to answer the overarching question of ‘Why do we commemorate events of the past?’. They have used their ICT skills to create and refine a Slides presentation on their chosen event and have now shared these presentations with their peers.

🏃On Monday week 10, students participated in a 100m sprint. It was wonderful to see the students put in their best effort for the event.
