As we are rounding off term two of the school year, these past few weeks have been amazing for the Grade 2 cohort!
In Reading, students have been working hard at finding the main idea of texts in class. Fostering this vital skill will allow them to understand texts at a deeper level and begin to develop competency with further comprehension strategies such as summarising and analytical thinking. So far, students have shown considerable improvement in identifying the overarching idea of texts and the details that support it.

In Writing, students have been further developing their skills in writing information reports. Throughout the term, the Grade 2s have written about various topics such as Australian wildlife, popular sports, and most recently community helpers. They have been following the steps of the writing process for each piece and have even begun to present their work using Keynote to the whole class. Courageous!
In Numeracy, students have continued with the topic of time, moving on from bigger units like years and months to smaller units like hours and minutes. A major focus of the past couple of weeks has been in reading analogue clocks. Students have been building their knowledge in this area, now demonstrating fluency with “o’clock” and “half past” and soon (hopefully!) with “quarter past” and “quarter to” as well. We are excited to see the overall growth in their knowledge of time by the end of the term!

Happy holidays from the Grade 2 team!
