Year 6
Reading:
In Year 6 Reading, we focused on making text-to connections and revised over comprehension techniques such as predicting and creating questions. The students had been exposed to videos that covered what was happening in the world around them and made connections to their lives and what is happening in the world. We also explored stories with a focus on identifying some of the themes and techniques that we can use to help us with our comprehension.
Writing:
In Year 6 Writing, we focused on procedural texts. We went through the structure with the students and had them create some origami to help guide them in how to create a procedural text that has clear steps. Students had shown that they were experts in creating a whole range of different foods, both traditional and not-so traditional with a healthy dose of origami for their own creativity. These texts were a joy to read and even us teachers learnt recipes.

Math:
In Year 6 Math, we introduced the topic of algebra and using formulas to work out a pattern, developing our own patterns for a classmate to identify. We completed a task involving finding the unknown numbers which were represented by fruit using trial and error and providing some hints to work out the rest. Students also used BODMAS to solve some equations, continuing to build on the students' confidence with the operations.
