Year One Team News

Hello Year One families,

We can’t believe it is already the end of Term 3! What a fun and exciting term we’ve had in Year 1. We’ve been busy celebrating and learning through so many wonderful experiences, including Bastille Day, NAIDOC Week, Book Week, Warm Water Swimming, Travel Day and Footy Day.

We would like to say a big thank you to all of our wonderful parent helpers who helped make these special experiences possible. We truly appreciate the time and support you have given throughout the term.

We hope you all have a relaxing, safe and enjoyable break. We look forward to seeing everyone back in two weeks for another busy and exciting last term in Year 1!

Toys in Motion Incursion: 

On Thursday the 15th of October we will be participating in the ‘Toys in Motion Inclusion’. This incursion will launch our inquiry unit for Term 4 which is “What Makes Things Move?” Thank you to all the families who have already given permission and payment on compass. 

Curriculum Focus: Term 4, Weeks 1-2

Reading: During this term we will be covering stage 7.4 of the Little Learners Love Literacy program. In the first week Students will learn four new graphemes kn as in knock, gn as in gnome, ch as in school and mb as in climb. In week 2 students will learn two new graphemes to spell /yoo/ – u-e as in tune and ue as in muesli.

Writing: In the first 2 weeks of Term 4 students will focus on expending sentences with conjunctions.

Numeracy: We will kick off the term by learning about measurement with a specific focus measurement using informal units. In week 2 students will be learning about time. Focusing on reading both analogue and digital clocks. 

Inquiry:  Our topic this term is ‘What Makes Things Move?’ and have been exploring the different forces used to make things move. Over the next few weeks, the students will make their own moving toys. 

Willy Kids/Respectful Relationships: The Willy Kids focus is “Willy Kids are Cooperative”. We will be learning how to work together to make sure everyone is happy. In Respectful Relationships lessons, we will be focusing on learning ‘help seeking’ throughout term 4. The first topic is ‘ways to help friends’ where students will learn to identify multiple ways to be a supportive friend and family member.
