German Learning – Term 3

We started Term 4 celebrating what a fantastic term of learning we had in Term 3 in German! Students across the school developed their vocabulary, confidence and ability to use German in meaningful and engaging ways.

Our Year 5 and 6 students explored Hobbys (hobbies) and can now confidently say what they enjoy doing, when they do it and how they feel about different activities. They put their skills to the test through live translation activities, interviewing their classmates about their hobbies and responding in German.

Mein Hobby ist Basketball spielen. Ich mache das am Wochenende. Ich finde das aufregend und spitze!

Year 3 and 4 students had a delicious time learning about Hans Riegel and his famous Gummibären! They learnt to describe the colours, flavours and textures of gummy bears before conducting a taste test and sharing their opinions. To finish the unit, students unleashed their creativity by inventing, designing and describing their very own Haribo flavour.

Our Year 1 and 2 students proudly described their Kuscheltiere, using words such as der Teddybär, die Puppe and das Kuscheltier, alongside a growing range of adjectives - neu, klein, groß süß, alt, weich, gestreift, fleckig and kuschelig. They loved bringing a special cuddly toy from home to share and describe with their classmates.

Our Reception students focussed on learning numbers 1–20 and how to say their age, all through the joyful theme of birthdays and celebrations. It was wonderful to see students embracing German with such enthusiasm!

The newest Mid-year Reception learners took to learning German too with a positive attitude, engaging in fun and interactive games and immersive play to practise greetings, introductions and some basic action words. A wunderbar beginning to their German learning journey.

We continue to be very proud of what we can achieve in one 50 minute lesson each week and how our LNPS learners embrace German learning and give it 100%.
