Reflecting on Our Drama Department’s Recent Success

On Thursday 19 September, the Stage 1 and Year 10 Drama classes showcased their incredible talent and hard work through Verbatim theatre, a form of documentary theatre that uses the exact words of real people. These words came from interviews, testimonials, and media footage, making the performances deeply authentic and powerful.

Over the past 10 weeks, our talented students formed their own theatre companies, diving into every aspect of production: research, scriptwriting, characterisation, lighting, set design, sound, and costume. Their dedication and creativity culminated in a series of compelling plays that explored the theme of relationships.

Highlights of the Performances:

  • Authentic Storytelling: The use of real words from interviews and testimonials brought a unique and powerful authenticity to the performances.
  • Comprehensive Production: Students took on every aspect of theatre production, showcasing their skills in research, scriptwriting, characterisation, lighting, set design, sound, and costume.
  • Exploration of Relationships: The plays delved into the complexities of relationships, offering thought-provoking and emotionally resonant narratives.

The performance of ‘What it means to me’ was a testament to the dedication and passion of our young actors as they brought these real stories to life. It was a show to remember!

Congratulations to all the students and teachers involved in this remarkable achievement. Your hard work and creativity have truly shone through. Let’s continue to support and celebrate the arts within our community.
