From The Principal

Marion Coady

We have welcomed back Ms Rebecca Smitran for term 4 as the English/EALD/IGNITE Leader. We have a new business leader Hazel Bashford who started with us on 28 October.

This time of the year sees the acknowledgement and celebration of our student achievements. On 29 October a whole school assembly was held to send off our Class of 2024.

They will return to school to complete their assessments tasks including examinations. Our formal farewell of the Class of 2024 will be on 27 November where family, friends and staff will witness student achievements in academic, leadership, sports and contributions to the school and community.

Information about the arrangements for all year levels will be sent to families to ensure you know what to expect for your child.

In summary:

  • Year7, 8 and 9 students will continue lessons up to an including the last week of the school year. Roundtables will occur in the last week with opportunities for students to talk about their learning.
  • Year 10 students will finish lessons on 6 December.
  • Year 11 students will finish their Headstart Program on 29 November

The formation of the 2025 timetable for students is well underway with us moving into the stage of allocating teachers and classes. Information about the distribution of the year 9 to 11 reports will be provided closer to the end of the school year.

It's never too later for students to make a concerted effort to apply themselves to their learning and ensure they submit assessment tasks that have been set. Working with a committed approach to the remainder of the year will set a good basis for students who are returning in 2025.

As a school, we will be one of a handful of schools to deliver the Certificate III Information Technology with a focus on cyber security commencing mid 2025. We are in the process of designing a purpose-built faculty to deliver this VET course. This option will provide students with opportunities beyond school in a high demand area. A recent visit to LOT 14 saw ideas generated about how to set up a learning space to ensure an immersion experience for our students.

I would like to acknowledge and thank families who have supported us in ensuring the school environment is safer without students bringing their laptop charging cords. Staff have reported that students are coming with their devices charged making it easier to get on with the teaching and learning.

Former Students Reunion Tour

On 18 October a group of about 30 former students had a tour of the school as part of their 20th reunion. They talked about where they had their classes, asked about their former teachers and were able to see the significant changes in the school from when they were at our school. It was wonderful to hear some of their conversations about their experiences they had whilst at Aberfoyle Park High School.
