School Excursions

Year 10 Outdoor Education - Mountain Biking
On Friday 23 August, our year 10 outdoor education class travelled to O’Halloran Hill, and Craigburn Farm to experience mountain biking and the environment.
Leading up to the excursion we have been learning about mountain biking skills, environmental conditions and risk management and applying this knowledge to adventure activities.
Everyone applied themselves well to developing their skills in the afternoon mountain biking session at Craigburn Farm and had a great time in the environment.
10 Outdoor Education - Rock Climbing Onkaparinga
On Monday 9 September, our class went rock climbing at Onkaparinga National Park. We had been practicing our double figure eight knot tying and belay techniques in the weeks leading up to the excursion, so we could maximise our time climbing and be safe.
Arriving at the cliff and seeing the ropes set up, realising we were going to climb 20m vertical was a mixture of excitement and overcoming an understandable level of fear. Working together with our classmates, trusting and encouraging each other, everyone experienced a successful and adventurous day.
It was definitely an extraordinary experience in a beautiful natural environment. We overcame challenges together, demonstrated resilience and created positive personal and group memories.
SACE stage one Outdoor Education
Our SACE stage one outdoor education classes explored the Southern Flinders Ranges for one of our experiences in the outdoors. This involved menu planning to cook on trangias, setting up tents, packing rucksacks, navigating and leading the group for different sections of our bushwalk.
We climbed Mt Remarkable on first day in unseasonal heat, which provided great views pr the surrounding area. We set up camp at Melrose Showground, then on day two hiked 15km through Alligator Gorge and climbed up to the top of the Battery to experience amazing views over Spencer Gulf.
On day three we packed up and travelled to Wirrabara Forest experience a different environment and for the group to walk independently.
Congratulations to the group on their efforts supporting each other, being organised, and contributing to a positive outdoor experience.
2024 MTA Automotive Careers Day
The Training and Employment Centre hosted its annual Automotive Careers Day last month. The event ran from 10 am to 2 pm and included a BBQ lunch for all students involved. We took a small group of students interested in the automotive industry with a view to gaining more information around work experience and apprenticeships in the automotive industry.
The automotive industry has a bright future for young people in South Australia and this was a fantastic opportunity for our students considering a career in the automotive industry. It provided students with the chance to explore career pathways and learn more about careers that don’t typically feature on school curriculums or are difficult to find out about. The students had a great day with so many interactive and hands on activities.
These activities included
- Vehicle painting
- Vehicle body repair
- Vehicle diagnostics
- Tyre repair
- Diesel engine shutdown, looking at show cars, drag cars
- Material hardness testing
- Ignition systems and EV technology
Students overall had an amazing day trying all the above activities, with qualified mechanics on hand to show and answer any questions. Students came away with a great appreciation of what it is like to work in the mechanical trades industry while at the same time having a fun day and gaining employment links.
