Foundation - Year 2

Students in Foundation, Year 1 and Year 2 have been exploring Earth and Space Science, learning about the different seasons and how the land changes throughout the year. They have also discussed the types of clothing suitable for each season. As part of their learning, students talked about ways to stay safe during summer, including seeking shade, wearing protective clothing and applying sunscreen.

In Digital Technologies, Foundation and Year 1 students have been learning about the features of iPads and how the different parts work. Year 2 students have been exploring the features of Chromebooks and practising how to use a range of their functions.

In Design Technologies, students designed and created a shelter to help keep a creature cool while it sits on its rock in the sun, encouraging them to think creatively about how materials and designs can solve real-world problems.

Year 3 - 4

Students in Year 3 and Year 4 have been learning about Earth and Space Science, focusing on the different types of rocks and how they can vary in colour, shape and size. They have also been investigating the properties of rocks by testing them and exploring how different materials and minerals influence how rocks look, feel and what they can be used for.

In Digital Technologies, students have been developing their online research skills. They have been learning how to use effective search strategies and how to identify the difference between reliable and unreliable websites when gathering information.

In Design Technologies, students have been researching the properties of rocks and exploring interesting rock formations from around the world.

Year 5 - 6

Students in Year 5 and Year 6 have been learning in Earth and Space Science about the processes that shape and change the Earth’s surface. This includes exploring the different types of weathering, erosion and deposition. They have also been learning about the difference between landscapes and landforms, and how these features combine to form the Earth’s surface.

In Digital Technologies, students have begun exploring a coding program called Grok Academy, where they are learning how to code using the Blockly visual programming environment while earning points and competing against students around the world. 

In Design Technologies, students have been researching a range of landforms and landscapes from around the world and investigating how weathering, erosion and deposition impact these environments over time.

Certificates

This year, each of the STSS teachers will select one student each week from the classes they teach to receive a certificate for demonstrating excellence in Safety, Respect or Learning. Congratulations to the following students for their wonderful achievements:
