NAPLAN - Year 3 and Year 5

Dear Families,

Next week our Year 3 and Year 5 students will take part in the National Assessment Program – Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN). Testing will begin on Wednesday and continue across the week.

NAPLAN provides a snapshot of student learning at a particular point in time in the areas of Reading, Writing, Language Conventions (spelling, grammar and punctuation) and Numeracy. At our school, it is one piece of information among many that teachers use to understand how students are progressing in their learning.

We encourage students to simply approach the assessments calmly and do their best. The tests are completed online and are designed to adjust to students’ responses, providing questions that match their level of understanding.

It is important to note that NAPLAN is not something we overemphasise. Teachers gather a wide range of evidence about student learning throughout the year through classroom assessments, observations and student work. NAPLAN contributes to this broader picture and helps us review progress over time, both for individual students and across year levels.

NAPLAN results are not released immediately. Schools and families will receive the reports later in the year, typically in July, once national processing and reporting has been completed.

As always, the most helpful support for students is ensuring they arrive at school well rested, on time, and ready to give things a go. We are proud of the effort our students show each day in their learning, and NAPLAN is simply another opportunity for them to demonstrate what they know.

Wishing all families a safe and relaxing weekend ahead, don't forget Monday 9th is a public holiday.

Deputy Principal - Teaching and Learning
