A Day in the Life... Deakin University Immersion Day
Year 11 students participated in a trip to Deakin University on Monday 15 June. They were welcomed and guided by an enthusiastic group of student ambassadors (MODs), who led them on a tour of the campus.
Students were able to choose from a range of workshops, including law, nursing, psychology, engineering, and business. Each session featured interactive, hands-on activities designed to give students a real-world experience of university learning.
The law and nursing workshops were particularly popular. In law, students took part in a mock trial, which many described as engaging, eye-opening, and a fun way to understand how the justice system works. In nursing, students learned how to assess and practice taking the five vital signs, including blood pressure and oxygen levels, with several commenting that it helped make healthcare careers feel more real.
Overall, students provided very positive feedback, noting that the experience was informative and helpful for thinking about future study and career pathways.
Careers Expo
Lyndale Secondary College is committed to helping students make informed decisions about their future education, training, and career opportunities. The Careers Expo provided students and families with the opportunity to engage directly with universities, TAFEs, training organisations, apprenticeship providers, and industry representatives to explore a wide range of post-school pathways. Students engaged with exhibitors, met alumni, and learnt about multiple pathways, including higher education, vocational education and training (VET). The school program places a strong emphasis on career planning, pathway development, work experience, and informed transitions into further education and employment.
