Daily handwriting practice help students form correct letter formation, spacing and letter position on the lines. This has been particularly important for us because we have been working towards publishing our writing.

To wrap up our Applied Literacy unit, which focused on persuasive writing, we worked through our entire writing routine to think, plan, write, revise and present a persuasive letter to Duncan from the perspective of another piece of classroom equipment. Students wrote letters from whiteboard markers, chairs and even glue sticks! Duncan now knows that putting the lid on the glue sticks is very important! They did a wonderful job sharing their writing with their classmates and Mr Anthony.

1B were lucky enough to have one of the fabulous work experience students visit our class. We loved getting to show Tilly how we change our readers every week and our best reading. We also got to show Tilly how we sit in STAR at Sunny Heights, ready to do our best listening and learning!

The Grade 1 students show be very proud of another wonderful term of learning, we can't wait to do it all again in Term 3! We hope everyone has a happy and safe break.

Year Two

Over the past two weeks, our Grade 2 students have been engaged in a range of exciting learning experiences. In Core Literacy, students explored how the spelling <s> can represent two sounds: /s/ as in sun and /z/ as in roses. They also developed their persuasive writing skills by sharing opinions and supporting them with reasons on fun topics such as snack time extensions and the importance of helping others.

In Systemic Knowledge, students examined artefacts from ancient Mesopotamia and discovered how clay tablets provide some of the earliest evidence of writing. We finished of our unit by creating cuneiform tablets using Ancient Mesopotamia character symbols to spell our own names.
