Principal's Message

Dear Students, Parents, and Community Members

As we step into another exciting year at Mentone Girls' Secondary College, I am delighted to share some highlights and updates that celebrate our vibrant and inclusive school culture.

A Warm Welcome to Pre-Service Teachers

This week, we extend a warm welcome to nineteen pre-service teachers from Monash University, who are embarking on their first-year placements. This experience is invaluable for their development as future educators. We are deeply grateful to our dedicated mentors who have committed their time and expertise to guide these aspiring teachers.

Year 10 Work Experience

Our Year 10 students recently completed their work experience programs in the last week of Term 2. This opportunity allowed them to gain practical insights and experience in various professional settings, significantly contributing to their career readiness and personal growth. We are incredibly proud of their efforts and the positive feedback received from their host organizations.

The Big Freeze Fundraiser

The spirit of community was evident during The Big Freeze 2024 event. With enthusiastic participation from both staff and students, our SRC-organized event saw staff members bravely 'dunked' in icy water, much to the delight of students. The event, filled with laughter and costumes, successfully raised funds for a worthy cause. A big thank you to everyone involved for their support and contributions.

School Musical – Legally Blonde

Our school musical, "Legally Blonde," is set to dazzle audiences in Week 7 of this term. Rehearsals have been in full swing, with students dedicating their Tuesday and Thursday afternoons to perfecting their performances. I am eagerly looking forward to what promises to be an outstanding showcase of our students' talents.

Annual Music Camp

From 25-27 July, 85 of our talented music students from Years 8-12 attended the annual Music Camp. This camp is a pivotal preparation for the upcoming Winter Concert at the Frankston Arts Centre on 7 August, as well as the Victorian Schools Music Festival, where four of our ensembles will be performing. The dedication and passion of our music students are truly commendable.

Information Evening for Year 9 and 10

In Week 2 of the term we hosted an informative evening for Year 9 and 10 students and their parents regarding subject selections for 2025. These sessions, organized by our diligent careers team, are crucial as students begin to refine their interests and plan their future career paths. I extend my heartfelt thanks to all the course counsellors for their invaluable assistance during this time.

Visit from Nakamura High School

This week, we had the pleasure of hosting three staff members and eighteen students from our sister school in Japan, Nakamura High School. The students stayed with local families, and we celebrated their arrival with a special assembly featuring performances and gift exchanges. Our students were enthusiastic and welcoming, and we look forward to organizing a trip to Japan next year, offering our students a wonderful opportunity to immerse themselves in another culture.

Looking Ahead to a Bright Future

In 2025, we are excited to announce the addition of nine classes of Year 7 students, a testament to the growing interest and high regard for Mentone Girls' Secondary College in the south-eastern suburbs. This expansion reflects our commitment to providing quality education and fostering an inclusive community where every student can thrive.

I have just returned from a productive international student marketing trip to Cambodia and Vietnam, where I met with agents and families who were extremely impressed with our school's excellent results and top 20 state ranking among government schools.

Thank you for your ongoing support and involvement in our school community. Together, we continue to build a nurturing environment where every student can achieve their best.

Best wishes

Linda Brown
