School Council Report
I joined School Council in March 2024 as a parent representative. I have two children at MGSC; one in Year 8 and one in Year 10. I was also a School Council member for a number of years at the primary school that my children attended, and I was keen to get more involved here at MGSC and to find out a bit more about how the school operates. I would like to thank the other members of School Council for being so warm and welcoming , and also very passionate about making our school the best that it can be.
An important function of School Council is to review and approve any changes to MGSC’s Policies. The MGSC Student Dress Code has been updated, and the changes were reviewed by School Council at our recent meeting.
Students and their parents or carers are able to apply in writing to the Principal for an exemption to the Student Dress Code if:
- an aspect of the dress code prevents the student from complying with a requirement of their religious, ethnic, or cultural beliefs or background;
- the student has a particular disability or health condition that requires a departure from the dress code
The Student Dress Code has been updated to specify that any approved, alternative uniform items (for example, tights or long-sleeved t-shirts under the summer dress) must be navy.
More details have also been added regarding the MGSC School Scarf, which may only be worn with the winter uniform.
These minor updates were approved by School Council, and the updated Policy document will be available on the school website shortly.
Results from the annual Attitudes to School Survey have recently been released, and we look forward to hearing details about these at our next School Council meeting. Spoiler Alert: The results are very positive!!
We are also very much looking forward to an eventful Term 3 in the Performing Arts area, with both the Winter Concert and the school production of “Legally Blonde” happening in the coming weeks. Please do come along; you won’t be disappointed!
