Music

Term 3 is always a busy one in the Music Department.  This term is focused around the two Eisteddfods – Yarram and the Latrobe Valley.  We reported on the earlier Yarram Eisteddfod in the last newsletter and in the second half of this term we had the Latrobe Valley Eisteddfod.  This term we also had a wonderful Spring concert to showcase the achievements of our performers at these Eisteddfods.

The Latrobe Valley Eisteddfod results

  • Secondary Students Instrumental Training Group: CCS Concert Band - 2nd (to Chairo Christian School Pakenham); CCS Guitar Ensemble - Highly Commended
  • Secondary Students Instrumental Ensemble: CCS Concert Band - 3rd (to St Paul's and Chairo).
  • Primary/Secondary Vocal Group: CCS Male Vocals Crew - 1st; (Chairo 2nd); Sion Singers 3rd
  • Open Vocal Group: CCS Show Choir - 1st (Chairo Senior Choir 2nd, Lavalla Senior Choir 3rd, St Thomas Aquinas HC)
  • Under 20 Vocal Group:  CCS Show Choir - 2nd (to Gippsland Children's Choir, 3rd to Lavalla)

Congratulations to all who competed on their performances – it was wonderful to hear live music and to have the opportunity to practice performing in front of an audience and an adjudicator!

Performing Arts Day

One of the highlights of our school year! Over the past few months, our six houses have been working hard under the guidance of our Year 12 leaders to create amazing performances filled with creativity, energy, and teamwork.

The day featured incredible house acts, plus standout solo and group performances that showcased the depth of talent across our College.

Congratulations to Champagnat House – winners of this year’s Festival with their brilliant Pitch Perfect performance! A special shoutout to House Captains Bella Forsyth & Harry Tatterson, House Leader Mr Davis, and the entire Champagnat team for their outstanding effort.

As well as the House Acts, the following students performed individual/small group acts:

  • Year 7 & Year 8 Performing Arts classes
  • Amelia Jinesh
  • Keenan Cruz
  • Dakota Edwards
  • Maggie Brennan
  • Lilly Monck
  • Lachie Marsh
  • Emily Nock & Grace Rowell
  • Owen Hunt & Asher Garoni
  • Isabella Wright
  • Junior Rock Band
  • Senior Rock Band

A special mention to the VCE VET Music students who ran the day seamlessly – operating the sound, coordinating the acts, running auditions, and organising the equipment, just to mention a few of their roles.

Places available

It is not too late to join in the activities in the Music Department – we have new members joining all through the year!  We would particularly like more woodwind players and a cello or two is always welcome.  There is also one vacancy at St Pat's for acoustic double bass.  Pick up an application form from the office and see Ms Roffe, or any of our other music teachers if you would like to start learning an instrument.  All you need is enthusiasm and a willingness to practice regularly.

I look forward to seeing you at one of our future events and thank you all for your continued support of the Performing Arts at Catholic College Sale.
