Spirit of Sport Award

Huge congratulations to our Year 8 Boys Football Team! They’ve been awarded the ‘Spirit of Sport Award’ at the SSV State Finals! 

This award recognises the school that best demonstrates positive values on and off the field, including:

  •  Spirit of Sport – attitude, love of the game & inclusivity
  •  Respect – for opponents, teammates & officials
  •  Integrity – fair play & honesty
  •  Leadership – setting the example & supporting others

We couldn’t be prouder of our boys — an incredible achievement showcasing their teamwork, sportsmanship, and CCS spirit!

CCS Netball Teams Shine at State Level

Three CCS Netball teams had a fantastic term, showcasing their talent at state competitions.

 

Our Year 7 team reached the SSV State Finals at Waverley Netball Centre, facing Western Heights College, Koo Wee Rup SC, and Rowville SC. After a 16-29 loss to Rowville, they narrowly lost 20-24 to Koo Wee Rup and 25-26 to Western Heights. Elle Aurisch was Player of the Day for her stellar work at Goal Defence.

 

Year 8 and Year 9/10 teams competed at the Netball Victoria Schools Championships in Parkville. Year 8 secured a win over Horsham College (10-4) and a close loss to Goulburn Valley Grammar (13-14), with tough losses in remaining matches. Intermediate Girls recorded one win, two draws, and two losses. Ebony Silvester and Brooke Kelly were Players of the Day.

 

A big thank you to Miss Gardiner, Mrs Carstairs, Mrs Gieschen, and Mrs Wheeler for their support this year. CCS continues to demonstrate depth, skill, and sportsmanship on the big stage.

SSV Basketball 

At the end of Term 3, CCS Year 7 and Year 8 Girls and Boys Basketball teams competed at the SSV Junior Basketball Wellington Finals in Traralgon.

 

The Year 8 Boys defeated Lavalla in a thrilling Grand Final, leading 13-11 at half-time and finishing strong with a 32-21 win. Ryder Gieschen impressed with five three-pointers. They will now compete at the SSV Gippsland Finals on Thursday 23 October.

 

Year 7 Boys dominated pool matches, winning 39-14 against Kurnai and 74-14 over Sale College, before falling to Lavalla in the final. Year 7 Girls also had strong wins against Yarram Secondary College and Sale College, but Lavalla proved too strong in the final, 23-34.

 

Year 8 Girls recorded three wins against Maffra SC, Traralgon College, and Yarram SC, before a close loss to Lavalla in the final.

 

Thank you to Mr Rod Curtis, Mr Josh Stubbe, and Mrs Kelly Burgiel for coaching and supporting these teams. CCS continues to show skill, determination, and sportsmanship on the court.

SSV Gippsland Track and Field Finals

Brilliant news in the realm of Track and Field for CCS, with 17 students qualifying for the State Finals of the SSV Athletics competition. 

This follows on from a terrific showing at the recent regional meet at Newborough, that saw over 40 CCS students compete against the best from around Gippsland. The following students will represent the College and Gippsland at the SSV State Finals at Lakeside Stadium in Albert Park:

  • Bodi Jordan – 12-13 Boys 800m 
  • Evie Jones – 14 Girls 200m

The team will travel to Lismore (NSW) to compete at the 51st Australian Boys Carnival against seven other Marist schools in a 50-over competition from November 30th to December 6th. Mr Josh Davis and Mr Chris Smart will coach the side, with Mr Jamie Murphy acting at Team Manager. 

 

We have also been conducting try-outs and training for our Marist Girls Cricket team. We hope to announce this team in early Term 4. The team will travel to Kilmore from December 7th – 10th to compete at the second annual Marist Girls Cricket Carnival. Games will be Twenty20 format, with CCS playing against seven other Marist schools from across Australia. Mr Corey Schotes and Miss Sophie Garner will coach this team, with Mr Murphy again acting as Team Manager. 

Gippsland Stars Netball 

We congratulate Year 11 Student, Mahli Stothers on her outstanding season, earning U17 Best & Fairest and U17 MVP.

Well done also to Year 12 Student, Chloe Felsbourg, who received U19 MVP and the Coaches Award for her excellent contributions on and off the court.
