Ronald McDonald House Charities Gala Ball: Lilly Monck’s Inspiring Speech
Year 8 student Lilly Monck and her family were invited to represent Ronald McDonald House Charities at the Gala Ball held at Crown Casino.
Lilly delivered a heartfelt speech from a sister’s perspective, reflecting on her family’s experience using RMHC services. Her mother also shared their story. Speaking in front of nearly 1,000 attendees, Lilly showed remarkable confidence and poise, earning high praise from the audience for her bravery and clarity.
Feedback highlighted the authenticity and impact of their speeches, noting how they powerfully conveyed the importance of RMHC beyond accommodation support. Many described the moment as deeply moving, with lasting ripple effects expected from their words.
This milestone is particularly significant given Lilly’s personal journey—just two years ago she struggled to speak at her primary school graduation. Her growth and confidence on such a large stage was outstanding.
The evening was also memorable for Lilly as she enjoyed one-on-one time with singer Samantha Jade.
Year 10 Taste of Hospitality – Powerbowls 🥗
Our Year 10 students have been busy creating their own Powerbowls as part of a scored assessment. Each bowl had to include:
✔️ A grain/base
✔️ A superfood
✔️ A protein
✔️ Two fruits or vegetables
Students designed, plated, and photographed their creations before evaluating them against the brief.
Automotive VM Students Put Skills to the Test
Our Automotive VM students recently had the opportunity to apply their classroom learning to a real-life situation. When a staff member’s car developed some unexpected problems, the students stepped in to assist.
Working together, they carried out a series of diagnostic checks, drawing on the practical knowledge and troubleshooting skills they have been developing in class. With guidance from their teacher, Ben Turner, the students identified the issue and recommended the best course of action to get the car back on the road.
This hands-on experience not only strengthened their technical confidence but also highlighted the value of teamwork and problem-solving in real-world settings. It was a proud moment to see our students putting their skills into practice and supporting our college community.
Vicspell Success
Vicspell is a non-profit spelling competition that is dedicated to promoting and rewarding good spelling across the state. The competition is open to students in Years 5 to 8.
Catholic College Sale students self-nominated to participate, and the students attended several lunchtime training sessions to demonstrate their skills and to understand how the competition works.
In the Wellington Zone competition held at Heyfield Primary School on August 29th, Edward Crouch and Edward Bertino came in first and second place for Year 7, and Thomas De Nobile was first for Year 8. The students demonstrated great skill in visualising the words and spelling them aloud.
In a quick turnaround, all students competed in the State Final held at St Paul’s Grammar School on September 1st. Competing against schools from across eastern Victoria, the nerves were high. After some tough competition, Edward Bertino was awarded State Champion for Year 7, and Thomas De Nobile was awarded State Champion for Year 8. Although Edward Crouch missed out on a place, he also performed very well. Students received trophies, dictionaries and Oxford University Press gift vouchers as prizes.
We congratulate the students on their efforts!

Students Support Local Primary School Athletics Carnivals
Over recent weeks, our students have been actively involved in volunteering at local primary school athletics carnivals, providing valuable support to help ensure the smooth running of events.
Students took on a range of responsibilities, including assisting with timing races, measuring field events, marshalling students, and encouraging younger participants as they competed. Their efforts not only helped the carnivals run efficiently but also contributed to creating a positive and supportive experience for all involved.
This volunteering opportunity allowed our students to develop important skills in communication, teamwork, and leadership, while also giving back to the community.
We are proud of the way our students represented themselves and our school, demonstrating responsibility, maturity, and a willingness to contribute to their community.
Students Continue Workplace Visits
Our students have continued to actively engage in a series of valuable workplace visits, providing them with the opportunity to explore potential career pathways and gain real-world insights into different industries.
Recently, students visited the ESSO Heliport, where they learned about the vital role aviation plays in supporting offshore oil and gas operations. In addition to seeing how helicopters are used to transport workers and supplies, students also explored the heliport’s maintenance facility, gaining a behind-the-scenes look at the technical work required to keep the helicopters safe and operational. Staff highlighted the wide range of careers involved in aviation support, including routine maintenance, mechanics, logistics, and safety management.
Students also toured the Southern Rural Water Glenmaggie Weir Dam Wall, exploring the significant role water management plays in supporting local communities, agriculture, and the environment. They gained an understanding of how infrastructure such as the dam is operated and maintained, while also learning about the history of the dam wall and why it was originally built. Staff from Southern Rural Water provide the students with insights the into diverse skills and knowledge required in the water management industry.
These experiences are part of our ongoing commitment to provide students with practical learning opportunities outside the classroom. By engaging directly with local industries, students are developing a greater awareness of workplace expectations, career opportunities, and the essential skills needed to succeed in the workforce.
