Principal Message Week 6 - Term 3

The International Baccalaureate (IB) mission to cultivate inquiring, knowledgeable and caring minds sits right at the core of who we are at St Columba’s. Looking back across our IB journey as we complete our evaluation, fills me with deep pride and reminds me why teaching is such a profound calling. Over the past two days, we have welcomed our IB evaluators to celebrate our achievements and begin to map out our future opportunities. By weaving both our Catholic values and the IB framework, we remain dedicated to nurturing the whole child, fostering not only their academic excellence, but also the compassion and resilience needed to thrive.

I saw this exact spirit in the Year 2 Science Expo on Thursday afternoon. The room was buzzing with excitement as our young researchers confidently shared their discoveries with parents, carers and grandparents. Beyond their scientific understanding, it was their respect, poise and risk taking, alongside their open mindedness and care that truly shone. Watching families connect over the students' learning was a beautiful reminder of what makes St Columba’s special.

We were blessed to mark Fr John’s 40th anniversary of ordination with a beautiful school assembly last Tuesday. Each class contributed thoughtful messages inside a picture book and we presented him with Learner Profile certificates highlighting his principled, open-minded and balanced spirit. A sincere thank you to all the parents, carers and grandparents who joined us for the assembly and for the various celebrations held across the weekend.
