House Matters

House Matters is an initiative that was introduced at Donvale in 2023. The program was designed to strengthen connections across the school by bringing together students from different year levels and helping them build relationships with a wider range of students and staff.
Each House includes three House Matters groups, made up of students from Prep to Year 6 and led by a dedicated teacher. Where possible, siblings are placed in the same group. Our goal is for these groups to meet at least once each term, providing regular opportunities to build strong, multi-age connections across the school.
Our first main event for the year was a great success, with students thoroughly enjoying the experience. Prep to Year 5 students enthusiastically participated in a range of rotational activities planned and led by our Year 6 students. It was a wonderful opportunity for students to connect with peers across different year levels while having some fun along the way. Our school values were clearly evident throughout the event, and it was fantastic to see such strong house spirit on display.

Today we had our second house matters session in 2026! We all wore our house colours- blue for Grevillea, green for Banksia, red for Waratah and yellow for Acacia. Then we lined up in our groups and headed to the first activity station. There were so many things to do! From giant’s treasure to the parachute, fruit salad, line tiggy and the basketball game! Then, after the athletic games, we went inside to our House Matters teacher’s classroom, where we made the flower that our house represents. It was such a fun day and I hope we can do it again sometime soon.

The House Matters activity was very fun. My group was Waratah C. I enjoyed the game Octopus the most. It was easy for me but also a good game for the Preps too. I enjoyed the day very much.
