School Wide Positive Behaviour Support (SWPBS)

School Wide Positive Behaviour Support is a department initiative aimed at supporting all members of a school community, helping them to make positive choices when faced with challenges.

Our school has been working closely with our SWPBS Coach Lisa Douglas, to align SWPBS with our School Values.

The first step has been to have staff and student discussions about any minor or major behaviours we experience at Cavendish Primary School. This has been quite challenging for everyone, as it is a very rare thing to have major behaviour at our school. It was powerful for the students to think about this, and why this is so.

These discussions then led to the development of our School Wide Positive Behaviour Matrix.

As you can see, these are all statements that begin with “we”, and they all state what we do at Cavendish Primary School. This matrix is not just for students. It is for everyone in our school community.

The next step is to unpack these at classroom level, and to come up with a matrix specific to each classroom.

This matrix and its statements also form the basis of our Wellbeing, Social and Emotional learning.

As a family, have a conversation about the matrix. Ask your children to explain it, and talk about our RED GUM Values.
