Years 2 & 3

This term our class text is The Iron Man by Ted Hughes, and we have been doing lots of vocabulary and sentence writing work around the text. Our main genre writing task this term is informational writing, and we have begun looking at information texts and recording information to support this. We have recorded information in written form and by using annotated diagrams.
We had a cross over between English and Maths work with fluency reading passages in which the Iron Man practiced reading a clock and telling the time.
Time and clocks have been the focus of our Maths lessons. Being able to read o'clock, quarter past, half past, and quarter to times on an analogue clock has been practiced by everyone, with some students moving on to telling time to the minute. We made a clock to be used as a personal learning resource and I have noticed students using these clocks effectively to both help them figure out the time and to check the accuracy of their answers. Being able to identify resources that can help our learning is an important study skill. Well done Year 2/3!
Last week on the dress up day to celebrate 100 days of school, the students jotted down some predictions about what life would be like when they are 100 years old. We connected this with our Maths work about data by graphing the frequency of some of the predictions. According to this data, by 2118 or so people will be mostly living in nursing homes, riding "Grannymobiles" or "Pop buggies", playing bingo, and perhaps surprisingly, doing karate!
