END OF TERM, AUSSIE STYLE || Our Year 12 English Language students celebrated the end of term and kicked off their new unit on Australian English today. With a spread of iconic Aussie party snacks and a screening of ‘Birth of a Bogan’, students explored the cultural values, stereotypes and language features that have shaped Australian English.

JAPAN STUDY TOUR || From the iconic vermilion torii gates of Fushimi Inari and Kinkaku-ji (Golden Temple) to Miyajima Island, Kiyomizu Temple and a shabu shabu cooking experience, our students have continued to immerse themselves in the rich culture and history of Japan.

On their final night together before beginning their homestays, students thanked Sumiko-sensei and Chikako-sensei for a wonderful trip and memories to last a lifetime, presenting them with beautifully painted porcelain cups inspired by the temples they had visited.

SOCCEROOS WORLD CUP WATCH PARTIES || There were plenty of cheers around the college today as students and staff came together to watch Australia take on Paraguay and book their place in the knockout stage of the FIFA World Cup. A great way to finish off the term together.

JAPAN STUDY TOUR || Our students received a wonderful welcome to Hokkaido, meeting their homestay buddies at Sapporo Airport before taking part in a welcome ceremony. The afternoon was filled with fun cultural games, including a blindfolded kendo challenge using foam noodles, as students got to know their homestay partners before beginning this exciting next stage of the tour.

YEAR 9 REEF TO RAINFOREST CAMP || Some final snapshots from our Year 9 Reef to Rainforest adventure in Far North Queensland! From exploring the Daintree Rainforest, planting native trees and discovering the wonders of the Great Barrier Reef to learning about Indigenous culture, wildlife and teamwork, students embraced every opportunity to challenge themselves, connect with nature and experience the best of Far North Queensland.

YEAR 10 WORK EXPERIENCE WEEK || Last week our Year 10 students explored a wide range of industries and workplaces through both traditional Work Experience placements and the Alternative Work Experience Program.

Delivered in partnership with the Bayside, Glen Eira and Kingston Local Learning and Employment Network (BGKLLEN), the Alternative Work Experience Program provided students with the opportunity to explore a variety of workplaces and industries including social enterprises such as Brainwave Bikes, while also completing short courses in Food Handling and Barista Training.

Across the week, students built practical skills, increased their confidence and gained valuable insights into future employment pathways.

A big thank you to all the businesses and organisations for their invaluable support and mentorship in helping our students explore future career pathways.

JAPAN STUDY TOUR || Our students have continued immersing themselves in Japanese culture and language, taking part in morning conversation classes, learning the art of making traditional Japanese sweets with an expert local chef and visiting the iconic canal city of Otaru.

WEDNESDAY 1 JULY 2026

JAPAN STUDY TOUR || Stepping into Japanese culture, our students had the opportunity to dress in traditional yukata, the summer kimono, and also took part in an origami workshop and a traditional tea ceremony.

With Ritsumeikan Keisho's motto, Freedom and Innovation, behind them, students celebrated another day of learning, connection and cultural exchange in Hokkaido.

JAPAN STUDY TOUR || Our 2026 Japan Study Tour has come to an end, marking the conclusion of another wonderful exchange with our sister school, Ritsumeikan Keisho High School. 

In his farewell address, our Principal, Stephen Bourbon, shared a well-known Japanese proverb: "Is it not a joy to have friends come from afar?" It reflects the value of friendship, connection and the joy of welcoming others – a sentiment that continues to underpin the partnership between Beaumaris Secondary College and Ritsumeikan Keisho.

A sincere thank you to the students, staff and families of Ritsumeikan Keisho for their warm hospitality and generosity throughout our visit. We are grateful for the experiences shared, the friendships strengthened and the memories made.

We look forward to welcoming our friends from Ritsumeikan Keisho to Beaumaris next year and continuing this valued exchange.

BACK TO SCHOOL FOR OUR STAFF || While students enjoy one last day of the holidays, our staff have been back at the college today for a Professional Learning Day. Throughout the day, staff engaged in professional learning, collaborated with colleagues and spent time planning and preparing for the semester ahead. Staff also took part in professional learning on Maestro, a new internal platform that will support teachers with assessment and help them use student learning data to inform their teaching.

These opportunities help ensure we continue to provide the best possible learning experiences for our students.

We look forward to welcoming everyone back tomorrow for the start of Term 3!

WELCOME BACK - TERM 3! || Today we welcomed our students back for the first day of Term 3 and it’s been wonderful to see the college buzzing again. We hope everyone had a relaxing break and look forward to another fantastic term of learning, opportunities and achievements.

PUSH-UP CHALLENGE 2026 || A huge thank you to our students, staff and families for supporting this year’s Push-Up Challenge. Together, the Beaumaris Secondary College community completed 19,413 push-ups and raised an incredible $1,976 for headspace, helping to support youth mental health and wellbeing.

A special congratulations to Year 12 Vocational Major student Mitch M, who raised an outstanding $1,220 of the total through his fundraising efforts. What an incredible contribution to such an important cause.

Thank you to everyone who participated, donated and helped raise awareness throughout the challenge. We are proud of our community for making a difference.

STATE CROSS COUNTRY || Congratulations to Yianni S and Sophie T on representing Beaumaris Secondary College at the School Sport Victoria State Cross Country Championships today. 

Competing against Victoria's best on a tough and muddy course, both students should be incredibly proud of their efforts.

SUPPORT OUR FAMILY LIFE DONATION DRIVE || Our Year 11 Vocational Major students are collecting donations to support the important work of Family Life and would greatly appreciate your support!

At this time, there is a particular need for:

• Winter coats, jackets and knitwear (men's, women's and children's)
• Homewares such as vases, lamps, decorative items, crockery, drinking glasses and wine glasses

Donations of all clothing are also welcome and can be placed in the donation bins at the college. Please note that breakable items should not be placed in the donation bins and should instead be taken directly to the Family Life Op Shop at 26 South Concourse, Beaumaris.

If you have furniture to donate, Family Life can arrange collection. Simply email photos of the item(s), along with your name, contact number and address, to warehouse@familylife.com.au or phone 9583 0305.

Please refer to the attached flyer for a list of items that can and cannot be donated.

Family Life operates Community Op Shops that help fund its specialist family services, including therapeutic support, community strengthening programs and other services that help local children, families and communities thrive.

Every donation, big or small, will help support individuals and families in our local community. Thank you for your generosity!

YEAR 7 INNOVATE – DIGITAL FABRIATION || How does a 3D printer create an object? Our Year 7 Innovate students explored the answer by learning the fundamentals of digital fabrication.

Students began by sketching a simple object from the top, front and side views before bringing their designs to life with LEGO, building one layer at a time to mirror the additive manufacturing process used by 3D printers. Along the way, they developed their spatial thinking, creativity and problem-solving skills.

The lesson also included a fun brain teaser, challenging students to see who could build a tree the fastest!

FRIDAY 17 JULY 2026

YEAR 11 VM COMMUNITY CONNECTIONS || Yesterday kicked off our Year 11 Vocational Major Community Connections program, with students meeting local community members and beginning conversations that will continue over four sessions this term.

Held at the Beaumaris Soccer Club in partnership with Bayside City Council, the program provides valuable opportunities for students to build connections beyond the classroom, develop their communication and interpersonal skills and learn from the experiences and perspectives of others.

We were delighted to receive wonderful feedback from the older adults who attended, many of whom shared how much they valued the opportunity to connect one-on-one with our students. They praised our students for their respectful manner, outstanding behaviour and genuine engagement throughout the session.

We look forward to seeing these relationships grow throughout the term.

MONDAY 20 JULY 2026

WHOLE SCHOOL ASSEMBLY || Students came together today to celebrate achievements, share experiences and look ahead to an exciting term. Students shared highlights from the Japan Exchange, Year 10 Work Experience and the Year 9 ‘Choose Your Own Adventure’ program. We also heard updates on this year's college production, the CORE Cup, course counselling, Year 9 Teach the Teacher and Year 12, along with presentations from our Communication Leaders, Sport Leaders and House Captains.

Our Instrumental Music students also treated the audience to wonderful performances, while our House Captains shared information about Connor's Run and recognised Phoebe M for her outstanding fundraising efforts in support of this great cause.

We concluded the assembly with an address from our Principal, Mr Bourbon, who encouraged students to reflect on how far they have come, embrace the opportunities ahead and recognise that the choices they make each day will shape the story of their year. He challenged students to reset their goals, strive to become the best version of themselves and make the most of the opportunities that Term 3 will bring.

YEAR 7 & 8 BASKETBALL ACADEMY – IT’S NOT TOO LATE TO GET INVOLVED! || Our Year 7 & 8 Basketball Academy is up and running, with students already enjoying specialised coaching from the Chase Basketball team while building their skills, confidence, fitness and teamwork.

There are still places available, so whether your child is new to basketball or looking to improve their game, we'd love to welcome them into the program.

📅 Regular training sessions: Monday, Wednesday and Thursday mornings (7:00am–8:30am) in the BSC indoor gym.

WEDNESDAY 22 JULY 2026 

YEAR 11 BEYOND – TIME MANAGEMENT || Our Year 11 students took part in a Time Management workshop during today’s Beyond session with Elevate Education, developing practical strategies to support their organisation and study routines.

The seminar explored how to balance study and lifestyle through effective routines, focus on high-value work, make the most of study groups and overcome procrastination. These are valuable skills as students continue to build independence and prepare for the demands of senior study.
