Principal's Report 

There is a place for everyone at Beaumaris — and at Beaumaris, everyone can find their place in the world.

Welcome back to Term 3. I hope our students, families and staff enjoyed a restful break and are feeling refreshed for another exciting term of learning and opportunity.

We commenced Term 3 with a staff Professional Learning Day focused on strengthening teaching and learning across the college. The day provided opportunities for staff to collaborate, plan for the semester ahead and further develop their professional practice. A key focus was professional learning on Maestro, a new data platform that will support teachers with assessment and the analysis of student learning data to inform teaching. Investing in staff professional learning ensures we continue to provide high-quality learning experiences and positive outcomes for our students.

Our first whole school assembly for the term provided a wonderful opportunity to celebrate some of the many highlights from the end of last term, including our Year 9 Choose Your Own Adventure Week and Japan Study Tour. These experiences exemplify our commitment to providing rich learning opportunities beyond the classroom. During the assembly, I also spoke to students about the opportunities that come with the beginning of a new term, encouraging them to reflect on their progress, reset their goals and make the most of the second half of the year. I would like to sincerely thank the dedicated staff who give their time and expertise to make these opportunities possible. Their commitment to our students, both inside and outside the classroom, is greatly appreciated.

Japan Study Tour

It was an absolute privilege to accompany our students on this year's Japan Study Tour. The experience provided an incredible opportunity for students to immerse themselves in Japanese language and culture, build meaningful connections with our sister school, Ritsumeikan Keisho Junior & Senior High School, and develop greater confidence and independence. From participating in homestays to engaging in school life and cultural experiences, our students embraced every opportunity with enthusiasm, making the most of this unique learning experience.

Positive Feedback on Our Students

One of the most rewarding aspects of being a principal is receiving positive feedback about our students from members of the wider community. Having recently travelled with our students on the Japan Study Tour, I was fortunate to witness firsthand the respect, kindness and maturity they consistently demonstrated.

Similarly, our Year 9 Reef to Rainforest Camp received glowing feedback from instructors and members of the public. Students completing workplace learning have also continued to impress employers. One recent supervisor commented, "It was a pleasure having you, Vlad. You displayed a maturity and passion beyond your years."

We have also received wonderful feedback from older adults participating in our Year 11 Vocational Major Community Connections program. They spoke highly of the opportunity to connect one-on-one with our students and praised their respectful manner, genuine engagement and exemplary behaviour throughout the session.

These moments reinforce the outstanding character of our students and the values they demonstrate every day.

NAPLAN Results

We are delighted with the strong performance of our Year 7 and Year 9 students in this year's NAPLAN assessments. The results highlight many areas of strength across reading, writing, spelling, grammar and punctuation and numeracy, reflecting the hard work of our students and the dedication of our staff. Individual NAPLAN reports were distributed to students this week. Families of students who were absent are asked to have their child collect their report from Reception at their earliest convenience. As we continue to analyse the data over the coming weeks, we will use these insights to celebrate success and identify opportunities for continued improvement. 

Preparing Students for Success

This week our Year 11 students participated in a Time Management workshop during their Beyond session, developing practical strategies to help them balance their academic commitments and personal wellbeing as they progress through their senior years.

Planning for future pathways is another important focus this term. Our 2027 Course Information Seminars for current Year 8, 9 and 10 families will provide valuable guidance as students prepare to transition into the year above. The Year 10 and 11 events also include a VCE Expo, giving families the opportunity to speak directly with teachers about the wide range of subjects and pathways available.

College Production

Excitement is continuing to build for our College Production, Rock of Ages, with Sunday rehearsals now underway as students and staff prepare to bring another outstanding production to the stage next month.

Year 7 & 8 Basketball Academy

This term marked the launch of our new Year 7 & 8 Basketball Academy in partnership with Chase Basketball. The program gives students the opportunity to develop their skills through high-quality coaching and training. Thank you to Liam Walsh for his work in bringing this initiative to life and helping establish this exciting new opportunity for our students.

State Cross Country

Congratulations to Yianni S and Sophie T who represented Beaumaris Secondary College at the State Cross Country Championships on 16 July. Reaching the state finals is a significant achievement and reflects the dedication, perseverance and commitment these students have shown throughout the cross country season. We are incredibly proud of their efforts and the way they represented our college.

2026 Curriculum Contributions

I would like to extend my sincere thanks to the many families who have already contributed to our 2026 Curriculum Contributions. Your support makes a genuine difference, helping us provide the resources, equipment and learning experiences that enrich our students' education every day.

A wonderful example of these contributions in action can be seen in our Beauy Fertiliser

 project featured in this newsletter. This student-led initiative has been made possible with the support of our FoodCycler, purchased through our Curriculum Innovation Contributions, enabling students to turn food waste into a sustainable garden product while developing valuable enterprise, sustainability and environmental skills.

Looking Ahead

Term 3 promises to be another busy and rewarding one, with highlights including our Year 11 Formal, our annual College Production, the Beauy Bake Off, VCE Parent/Student/Teacher Conferences, Connor's Run, the Ensembles Concert and many other opportunities for students to learn, grow and connect throughout the term. I encourage families to keep an eye on Compass, our newsletter and our social media channels for updates and celebrations as the term progresses.
