YEAR 12
Leaving A Legacy

Head of Year 12
As the Year 12 cohort approaches the end of their schooling journey, this year’s Athletics Carnival holds special significance as it will be their final carnival. We encourage students to embrace the day, compete to the best of their ability, and create lasting memories with their peers.
Unfortunately, there have been several instances in which students have parked vehicles across the driveways of residences surrounding the College, preventing residents from accessing their vehicles. Parking across driveways is illegal. While we have been able to identify the vehicles before they have been towed, this is unacceptable and must not continue.
We are excited to announce that tickets for the Year 12 Celebration Dinner will go on sale at the beginning of Term 3.
Our Year 12 students are already looking forward to what promises to be a wonderful evening, marking this important milestone in their schooling journey. The dinner will provide an opportunity for students and their families to come together and celebrate their achievements in a special and memorable way.
Please note the following important details regarding ticket sales and the event:
Student attendance at the Celebration Dinner: Celebrating as part of the St Mary’s community and the Year 12 Class of 2026 is an important milestone for students. However, it is important to note that our school expectations regarding attendance and behaviour are key considerations in attending the Celebration Dinner. We want all students to attend and celebrate this milestone; however, it is expected that they meet the broader expectations of their schooling. The Assistant Principal – Senior Secondary will be in contact to communicate any progress or adjustments required in these areas.
Further details regarding the Celebration Dinner, uniform/grooming expectations and allowances, and attendance in the final week of school will be communicated next term. Thank you for your continued support as we prepare to celebrate our Year 12 students and their achievements.

When: Tuesday 11 August 2026
Where: JCU Townsville (travel subsidies may apply - see below)

This full-day experience offers students a unique insight into careers in animal health and welfare. Students will hear from JCU academics and current students, explore JCU’s Veterinary and Emergency Centre and Hospital, and gain perspectives from industry experts in veterinary science. It’s a hands-on, behind-the-scenes opportunity to discover what it’s really like to work in the veterinary science field.
Travel subsidies are available to students accepted into the program who need to travel more than 300km to JCU Townsville. JCU encourages all Year 10, 11, and 12 students in Central, North, and Far North Queensland who are interested in a career in veterinary science to apply.

✅ Increased penalties for unsafe riding
✅ Police powers to seize illegal devices used in public places
✅ Stricter requirements for legal e-bikes and personal mobility devices
