YEAR 11
Leading The Way

Head of Year 11
As we look ahead to Term 3, some Year 11 students will begin obtaining their driver's licences and may wish to drive to school. Students who intend to drive to the College must collect a Motor Vehicle Agreement Form from Ms Borzi, complete it, and return it before driving to school.
Please note that the Trade Training Centre car park is reserved for Year 12 students. Year 11 students who park on Anderson Road are still required to register their vehicle and submit the completed form.
The St Mary's Athletics Carnival will be held on Monday, 22 June at Barlow Park. This is a compulsory school day, and all students are expected to attend. If your child is unwell, please notify the College via the MyCE app as per normal absence procedures.
As Year 11 students continue "Leading the Way", I encourage them to lead by example through active participation, encouragement of others, and positive House spirit throughout the day. Students are to be dropped off and collected directly from Barlow Park and should arrive in their House uniform, including appropriate running shoes. Every participation point counts, and I look forward to seeing our Year 11 students getting involved and representing their Houses with pride.
There has been plenty happening across our Year 11 VET pathways this term. Our Certificate II in Health students recently completed their practical assessment with a Nurse Practitioner, providing an opportunity to demonstrate the skills and knowledge they have developed.
In Furnishing Skills, students are beginning to see their hard work come to life, with several stool projects nearing completion. Students are also preparing entries for the Business Liaison Association (BLA) DATTA Awards. It is great to see our VET students continuing to develop practical skills and industry knowledge through these valuable learning opportunities.
As we reach the halfway point of our "Marathon in the Making," I would like to wish all Year 11 students and their families a safe and relaxing holiday break. I hope students take this opportunity to rest, recharge, and return ready for the challenges and opportunities of Term 3.
A reminder that students are required to clean out their lockers before leaving on the last day of term. This helps ensure that no valuables are left on site over the holiday break.
Applications for JCU Heroes in Veterinary Science are now open to students in Years 10, 11 & 12.
When: Tuesday 11 August 2026
Where: JCU Townsville (travel subsidies may apply - see below)

This full-day experience offers students a unique insight into careers in animal health and welfare. Students will hear from JCU academics and current students, explore JCU’s Veterinary and Emergency Centre and Hospital, and gain perspectives from industry experts in veterinary science. It’s a hands-on, behind-the-scenes opportunity to discover what it’s really like to work in the veterinary science field.
Travel subsidies are available to students accepted into the program who need to travel more than 300km to JCU Townsville. JCU encourages all Year 10, 11, and 12 students in Central, North, and Far North Queensland who are interested in a career in veterinary science to apply.

If you ride an e-bike, e-scooter, e-skateboard or e-unicycle, important new Queensland laws come into effect from 1 July 2026.
Key changes include:
✅ New speed limits on footpaths and when passing pedestrians
✅ Increased penalties for unsafe riding
✅ Police powers to seize illegal devices used in public places
✅ Stricter requirements for legal e-bikes and personal mobility devices
✅ Continued focus on helmet use, mobile phone restrictions and drink-riding laws
These changes are designed to improve safety for riders, pedestrians and all road users. Parents and students are encouraged to familiarise themselves with the new rules before the school holidays.
