Curriculum

Year 8 will be introduced to a range of potential Stage 5 elective subjects for Year 9 2026 on Friday in Week 3.  Further information will be shared once the subject selection process is fully underway.  Parents are encouraged to chat with their daughter about their interests and subjects in which they have enjoyed success or are passionate about to help them formulate their choices later in the term.

Year 12 Trial HSC Exams will commence on Monday of Week 3, Monday, 3 August 2026, and continue until Monday, 17 August 2026.  The exam timetable was shared with students last term, together with an exam notification from each of their courses.  Morning exams start at 8.30 am and afternoon exams start at 12.30 pm. We encourage all students to organise themselves to ensure suitable preparation, including the self-care of good sleep and thoughtful study habits, to ensure they are at their best for this assessment period.  The usual requirements for absences during assessment apply, and it is the responsibility of students to apply for an Illness/Misadventure via the link on Compass should they miss an exam.  Students also need to contact the school before 8:35 am to notify us of an absence.

Congratulations to Diya Vinoth Kumar in Year 7 whose piece of writing has been shortlisted out of more than 6,700 entries for the Whitlam Institute’s ‘What matters?’ Writing Competition - what a feat! Diya has written a very thoughtful article that prompts us to think about what is truly important in our lives. You can read Diya’s wonderful entry here. We wish Diya well for the announcement of the finalists in September.

Year 9 Elective History

Students have been creating a new oral history project about contemporary women’s lives and work. The students have interviewed various individuals to find out about how women’s lives have changed over time and to highlight their work and contribution to the community. Nancy Cosgrove joined us at the College and shared her life experiences and dedication to her work in educating young people about Australia’s involvement in the Vietnam War. Nancy and her husband, Vin, have delivered their interactive program to students at Caroline Chisholm College for 20 consecutive years, and to students at many other schools in the Sydney region over this time. Barbie Bates from Paint the Town REaD also visited us for an interview about her work with this amazing community-based literacy movement, which works towards having every Australian child ready for reading by the time they start school. The practice of reading to 0-4 year olds helps develop their brain connections and gives them the start they need to be ready to read by age 5. More impressive women have been interviewed, and the students’ oral history museum is beginning to take shape, and is a credit to their work in History.
