Partnerships

Penrite Racing Team with Jamelia, Ella and Emma

What a magnificent weekend with the V8 Supercars Indigenous Round in Darwin (19-22 June)!  MITS has formed a terrific partnership, now in its fourth year, with the Penrite Racing Team.  Each year, two MITS students are selected to create the artwork which wraps around the two racecars and drivers' suits.  Penrite Racing, through Grove Group, also raise vital funds for MITS.

The two students selected to create the 2025 design were Jamelia (Year 10, Kingswood College) and Ella (Year 11, Methodist Ladies' College).  The girls did a terrific job - their artwork was simply stunning!  Penrite Racing also enjoyed their most successful race meet for some time - undoubtedly inspired by the beautiful artwork adorning the vehicles.  Jamelia and Emma, a,long with their family, were invited to attend the race at Hidden Valley in Darwin as special guests.  This included the girls going on a 'hot lap' in the race cars themselves!  Congratulations to Jamelia and Ella for their amazing work.

In addition to this, Emma (Year 10, Camberwell Girls Grammar) undertook work experience with the Penrite Racing Team.  Emma has a real passion for V8s, having attended the V8s in Darwin her whole life with her Dad.  Emma learned lots about how the garage was run, including attending the driver/engineer briefings, shadowing garage tours, understanding race strategies and learning about car mechanics.

A special thanks to the Penrite Racing Team, Grove Group and in particular to Zoe Grove for coordinating this amazing experience for Emma, Ella and Jamelia. (see Emma front row below).

Jarrah

Since 2023, a great addition to our weekly routine has been the lovely lunches supplied by Jarrah, a local First Nations owned business. This initiative has been greeted with a great deal of excitement by our students, swiftly becoming a keenly awaited highlight.

What makes this  particularly special is that the students themselves get to choose what they'd like to eat! This has been a fantastic opportunity to mix things up from the usual routine, and it’s been really lovely to see them eagerly looking forward to these meals. They're not just enjoying familiar favourites but also adventurously exploring a whole range of new flavours and different types of dishes, broadening their culinary horizons with every bite.

The enthusiasm is plain to see, and these weekly deliveries from Jarrah are clearly a brilliant and tasty part of our students' experience. And the team at Jarrah are just as chuffed, sharing that "we love that the students are enjoying the food." It’s wonderful to see this partnership bringing so much enjoyment all round!
