From the Boarding Houses

Senior Girls House - 371
Excitement filled the air as the boarding community headed to the MCG for the iconic Dreamtime at the ‘G,’ go Tiges! It was a truly memorable evening enjoyed by all, made even more special with a group of Senior students taking part in the Guard of Honour.
Weekends have offered a great balance of activity and rest, with sports still in full swing. As the weather has cooled, the girls have been spending more time inside, getting creative with arts and crafts. Sewing has become a regular weekend highlight, and something they have really taken to.
We have also welcomed some wonderful external partners as part of our enrichment program. Mushroom Records delivered a careers talk, Swisse hosted a rice paper roll-making session, and Headspace spent an afternoon crafting and connecting with the girls.
A few other standout events have included the AFLW Indigenous and Multicultural Academies, the Jindi Woraback Community Day, and the Indigenous All Stars Basketball Round. The girls also attended the Francesca Puruntatameri Exhibition Opening, along with Presentations by Remote Aboriginal Art and Culture workers - both of which gave students a chance to connect with family members and cultural leaders.
It’s been a calm, creative, and connected term in the Senior Girls boarding house. As we near the end of term, the energy is building, and everyone is getting excited for the upcoming holidays!
Wominjeka to 364 Fellas Boarding!
As we come towards the end of Term 2, sports continue to consume much time in boarding. We have basketball on Saturdays, football on Sundays and we have some very talented young fellas who bring a special flair to the games we play in. We recently celebrated Dreamtime at the 'G where we took part in a guard of honor for the Richmond team, unfortunately the results didn’t fall our way.
Mount Samaria is 130km north-east of Melbourne and recently played host as the destination for our mountain bike riding camp. Despite some wet weather, the fellas had an amazing time on Taungurung Country and this is a definite highlight of Term 2. We put our foot to the metal and tested out skills with a go karting session that was well received by all involved. There were loads of bumps and spin outs and the smile on the fella’s faces were priceless.
Our fellas have been spending time immersing themselves in music and the sounds of electric drums, guitars and yidaki are often heard coming from the lounge. There is much laughter and competition coming from the table tennis table in our games room.
The fellas have made great steps in keeping their spaces clean and tidy and the entire house shares a super positive and homely vibe. Our study sessions are operating well and the benefits will be seen in the classroom. It’s time for the fellas to recharge their batteries and spend some time with family before returning back to Melbourne for an action-packed Term 3.
Year 7 Boarding - Lockington House
The final weeks of Term 2 have seen the Year 7 students bracing the cold and getting out exploring Melbourne and beyond. Students have enjoyed heading out for day trips to explore and spend time out in nature, before spending their Sundays playing for RJFC.
We had the pleasure of being in the Guard of Honour for Richmond during the Dreamtime Game at the 'G! An exciting experience for all (even those that aren't tigers supporters). Students did an amazing job at representing MITS and their families during all of the special Dreamtime engagements offered to them.
Students have enjoyed heading to PCYC each Monday to develop their fitness through boxing. We recently have obtained a new set of bikes, with students travelling with staff in small groups out to the MCG to explore. This has been well received with staff sharing positive feedback about student's behaviour and engagement on these rides. We look forward to building this into a program in Term 3.
We invited the U12 RJFC teams to Lockington to join in a Reconciliation Week event. Students loved inviting their new friends into their space - teaching them how to make damper, sharing around the firepit and working on face painting. Students did a great job in preparing the house and hosting their team mates.
Our final weekend of Term 2 will be a visit the Snow! A place called Lake Mountain, where we will go tobogganing and play around in the snow. This is to celebrate an impressive term for Year 7, and we look forward to welcoming them back in Term 3 after they've enjoyed their much deserved holidays!
