SPECIALIST FEATURE NEWS
你 好 (ni hao) Welcome to our Specialists’ corner!
The art room has been a hive of activity with lots of projects on the go, filling the shelves, benches and drying racks as the students work hard to complete works for our Evening with the Arts celebration in Term 4.
Foundation students have explored line, colour and pattern whilst creating some vibrant abstract artworks where they practised using different materials from around the art room. They have begun looking at self portraits, exploring the features that need to be included and what makes us all unique. These portraits will form part of an exciting collaborative class artwork that will be present during the art show.
Year 1 and 2 students have been busy exploring colour through new watercolour painting techniques, seeing how it reacts to oil pastel and even salt. They had fun creating neurographic art with bold colours and lines and this week, were excited to paint bright flowers onto CDs as a part of a project that combines 2D and 3D art elements to finish off the term.
The 3/4 Students have spent the term exploring pop artists and their use of art elements. We begun by looking at the work of Andy Warhol and Roy Lictenstien with students creating their own Warhol-inspired artworks using mixed mediums. This week students discovered the amazing work fo Claes Oldenburg, discussing his use of scale before starting their very own scaled up fruit and vegetable sculptures.
Year 5 and 6 students have done a lot of work exploring health and nutrition during wellbeing lessons to help guide our exciting school cow project, brainstorming concepts and sketching design ideas. We studied and discussed the 20th century Fauvism movement and used this to inspire cow portrait paintings. This week, the students have enjoyed getting their hands dirty, creating animal pinch pots that are currently filling all the benches, ready to be painted and glazed.
School Cow Update:
After the awesome work of the whole 5/6 Cohort, our school cow (provided by Dairy Australia) is well underway, having a design finalised and getting her first coat of paint by the art leaders this week.
Stay tuned for updates regarding our upcoming Evening with the Arts, a celebration of art, music and culture across the school. We have an exciting event planned with opportunies to be involved and showcases of the amazing work each student has done across the year.
