Service report – John Picco, Service Captain 

Last night, St Augustine’s hosted the Vinnies Sleepout for our students to raise awareness of and funds for people experiencing homelessness. We spent the night in solidarity with those doing it tough, and thanks to everyone’s generosity, we have raised $7,991 and counting! A special shout out to Ken Frost Homes for matching every donation that has been made to our page. I thank the St Vincent de Paul youth team for the session that they facilitated. A massive thank you to Mrs Roberts and Mr Halliday for coming along for the night as well as Mrs Cross for organising the event.  

Additionally, a huge thanks goes to the 10 Year 12 boys who donated blood recently – your contribution truly means a lot to the Cairns community. Details and photos are on the Around the College page. 

Looking ahead, the SRC is hosting a school clean-up next Wednesday after school. This is a great opportunity to take pride in our campus, work together and give back to our school community.  I also thank the 25 boys who supported the SRC clean-up event last Wednesday. Sadly, we picked up another 20 bags of rubbish from our own school grounds. Thank you to all the gents who are doing the right thing! We are going to make it a focus to keep our college clean.  

Assumption Mass – Mrs Christine Cross 

The Assumption Mass is a very special celebration of the Eucharist where we acknowledge that Mary, the mother of Jesus, was truly and justly taken from this earth to her heavenly resting place. This year we were lucky to be able to celebrate it in the Cathedral on 20 August. The Mass was presided over by Fr Jerin Chandy. We focused on the hope and inspiration that Mary gives us at our college. Her overwhelming example of love for all that is good and for her humble approach to life gives us all something to strive for.  

Together as a college we pray:   

Dear Lord, God of mercy, we rejoice because Mary, the mother of our Lord, was taken into the glory of heaven.  May the Lord of life give us peace in our hearts and cause us to live in sincerity and truth. May the Creator of all that is good grant us a life marked by the faith, hope and love of Mary. May we go with the joyful spirit of Mary, to love and serve the Lord.  Amen. 

Immersion  

We are currently in the process of calling for applicants who would like to attend the 2027 Fijian immersion. The teachers who will accompany them are Mr Hume, Mrs Nissen and Ms County.   

2027 Prefect selection 

The selection process has started. House captain speeches have been conducted, and the College captain interviews will be held next week. Those speeches will take place in Week 1 next term. The announcement of all the prefects will be made in the Week 2 assembly next term.
