Strong NAPLAN Results Reflect Student Growth and Academic Excellence

St Augustine's College is proud to celebrate the strong performance of our Year 7 and Year 9 students in this year's NAPLAN assessments. These results provide valuable insights into student achievement and help us evaluate the effectiveness of our teaching and learning programs.

Our Years 9s achieved results above national, diocesan and state averages in every assessed domain. Particularly noteworthy were the outstanding performances in numeracy (604), reading (582) and grammar and punctuation (575), placing our students well ahead of comparison groups and reflecting the sustained effort of both students and teachers.

Similarly, our Year 7 students performed strongly, exceeding national, Catholic Education Diocese of Cairns (CEDC), and Queensland averages across most domains. Year 7 numeracy was especially pleasing, with students achieving a score of 572 compared with the national average of 548 and the Queensland average of 533. Strong results in reading, grammar and punctuation further demonstrate the foundations being established in the middle years.

While writing results should be interpreted with caution, due to the significant NAPLAN platform disruptions experienced across Queensland, our data otherwise indicates that students continue to demonstrate solid academic growth and attainment.

Importantly, NAPLAN represents only one measure of student achievement. At St Augustine's, assessment data is considered alongside classroom performance, curriculum achievement and student wellbeing to build a comprehensive understanding of each learner's progress.

As we approach Week 10, our Year 12 students will undertake their mock block examinations. These assessments provide an invaluable opportunity for students to experience conditions that closely mirror the Queensland Curriculum and Assessment Authority (QCAA) external examinations in Term 4. Beyond measuring current achievement, the mock blocks allow students to refine examination techniques, practise responding to subject-specific question types, identify areas requiring further revision, and build confidence in managing the demands of the external assessment. The experience gained will be instrumental in preparing students for success in their final examinations.
