NSW AFL Representatives Shine on the National Stage

Moama Anglican Grammar proudly congratulates Ryan Strahan, Chloe Ryan, Hannah Sara and Sophie Millar on representing New South Wales at the School Sport Australia Under 14 AFL Championships, held at La Trobe University in Bundoora, Melbourne, last week. Selection in a NSW School Sport team is a tremendous achievement and reflects the dedication, perseverance and talent each student has displayed throughout their football journey.

Throughout the week-long carnival, Ryan, Chloe, Hannah and Sophie competed against the best Under 14 footballers from across Australia, proudly representing both their state and Moama Anglican Grammar with outstanding skill, determination and sportsmanship.

Chloe, Hannah and Sophie were members of the NSW Girls team that progressed to the Gold Medal match, claiming an impressive Silver Medal after a hard fought contest against Victoria. Ryan was also part of a successful NSW Boys team that earned a place in the Bronze Medal match, narrowly going down to South Australia.

Congratulations to Ryan, Chloe, Hannah and Sophie on this outstanding achievement. The Moama Anglican Grammar community is incredibly proud of the way they represented their state and school, and we look forward to watching their continued success in the years ahead.

Historic Success at Border Independent Secondary School Association (BISSA) Athletics Carnival

The BISSA Athletics Carnival was held on Thursday 30 July in Albury. A large team of secondary students attended after an early start. While it was very cold, the sun did shine through by lunchtime to help defrost toes and fingers. It was certainly worth it, with MAG winning the overall school award for the first time in the school's history!

Some magnificent performances from students were witnessed, and quite a few Personal Bests were achieved. Special mention to those athletes who achieved Age Group Champion:

A total of 33 of our secondary students have won through to the Combined Independent Schools (CIS) Championships in Sydney on Tuesday 22 September.

Thanks to Mrs Claudia Moore, who officiated the long jump all day, assisted by Mr Trent Grey. Mr Anthony McMahon worked hard to coordinate the team, and Mrs Kate Downward conducted training in the lead-up and coached athletes on the day. A great team effort.

MAG Wins Riverina Associated Schools (RAS) Champion School Title Again

MAG wins champion school title for a second year in a row!

The 50+ athletes representing MAG at the Riverina Associated Schools (RAS) Athletics Carnival on Tuesday 4 August came home victorious after winning the overall title.

Amelia Goodsell (8 to 10 Girls) finished as Age Group Champion, and we had three Runners Up:

• Savannah Dicker and Tahlie Clydesdale tied in the 12/13 Girls

• Brodie Brewer, 8 to 10 Boys

   

Congratulations to those athletes who broke records on the day:

A special mention to those athletes who filled in events at the last minute and stepped up when opportunities presented themselves. It was great to see those athletes getting out of their comfort zone, taking on a challenge, and these results contributed substantially to the overall win.

A total of 27 of our primary students have won through to the Combined Independent Schools (CIS) Championships in Sydney on Friday 4 September.

Thanks to Mrs Moore and Mr McMahon, who officiated the boys' shot put all day, and to Mrs Briggs, who ensured everyone got to their events on time.

Finally, a massive thank you to our Head of Athletics, Mrs Downward, for all her efforts in the lead-up to both the BISSA and RAS carnivals. The students really appreciated the guidance and support on the days, along with her ability to convince a student to fill an event for the team!

Independent Country Co-Educational Schools (ICCES) Football Tournament Demonstrates Skill and School Spirit

Our students headed to Bendigo recently for the Independent Country Co-Educational Schools (ICCES) Football Tournament, and it was a day that showcased not just skill on the field, but the character of our school community.

The Year 7/8 girls were the standout performers of the day, fighting their way to an honourable runner-up finish. What made this result even more impressive was the way they handled a heartbreaking twist. An incorrect decision ultimately cost them the win. Rather than letting frustration take over, our girls responded with real integrity, a great reminder that how you lose can say just as much as how you win.

The Year 10 to 12 girls took to the field with just 15 players, a tough ask for a full day of football. Thankfully, a group of our junior students stepped up in a big way, generously filling in to help the older girls field a team. Between them, these juniors played a combined six matches across the day, a fantastic show of compassion and team spirit that did not go unnoticed.

In the boys' competition, the Year 7/8 team fought hard to secure a well-earned third place finish. They performed well throughout the day, showing fantastic team spirit. Our Year 10 to 12 boys also took the field with low numbers on the day, but showed real determination in the face of adversity, battling through every match. It was fantastic to see all the students come together at the end of the day to sing the school song and show support for one another.

A big thank you to the students who gave up their time to assist throughout the day, goal umpiring, running water and keeping score. Your help behind the scenes made the day run smoothly for everyone.

Finally, a huge shout out to our wonderful staff for their dedication to coaching, both in the lead up to the tournament and on the day itself: Ms Leah Thompson, Mr Darcy Hall, Mr Curtis Townrow and Mrs Claudia Moore. Thank you also to Mr Greg Cadd, Miss Zoe McCallum and Mr Jack Davy for all their assistance on the day.

Well done to everyone involved. It was a great day of football and an even better display of teamwork, resilience and school spirit.

MAG Equestrian Squad Training Day

The MAG Equestrian Squad enjoyed a fantastic training day at Rochester Pony Club on 5 August. Riders worked hard to develop their skills across two sessions, completing dressage and flatwork patterns with Miss Jess Stewart and tackling cross country training with Miss Stacey Briggs.

It was wonderful to see students demonstrating confidence, perseverance and excellent horsemanship throughout the afternoon.

A special welcome to our two new squad members and new students to our school, Chenoah (Year 3) and Evie (Year 8). We are excited to have them join the MAG Equestrian Squad.

We look forward to another fun and productive semester of riding, learning and team spirit. Our next squad training day will be held on Wednesday 19 August.
