Secondary School
This week was packed full of celebration in the Secondary School. From the staff versus student volleyball game as part of Wilson Day, to the second VET Show, to the generous messages and videos given to me at Assembly on Monday, there has been a great deal of joy and fun this week.
Students were challenged by Mr Paul Litherland’s presentations which has led to many thoughtful discussions around the school. I encourage you to find out more from your child about Paul’s messages.
Elsewhere, a group of students participated in a workshop run by a group looking for student voices about alternate entry pathways to University. Great Southern Grammar is proud of the opportunities we offer to our students in this area, and I was delighted our voices has been recorded on this important matter.
David Gee will be joining us on Friday from Trinity Residential College in Perth, and I encourage all students considering a move to Perth to attend this presentation for advice about all aspects of moving to the city beyond school.
Online Numeracy and Literacy Assessment (OLNA)
OLNA has been completed for our Years Eleven and Twelve students for this round. We are blessed at GSG to have a supportive and effective IT support team to ensure these important assessments run smoothly.
Our teaching staff and learning enrichment team have also worked hard to prepare students for these assessments and our students not only looked confident and ready, but some even had a smile, too. Results will be available at the beginning of next term.
Our next round of OLNA will be for students in Years Ten, Eleven and Twelve and will take place at the beginning of September, late Term Three.
Excellence in Endeavour
Our Endeavour Awards are one of the highlights of my year as we take time to think about who is ready to learn in our classes and striving for excellence. I know that teachers do not make these decisions lightly and I also know how highly these awards are respected by bodies outside of school – for example: employers, universities, and scholarship givers.
This week we recognised our students in Years Ten, Eleven and Twelve.
Students in Years Seven, Eight and Nine will be acknowledged in next week’s Assembly.
