Year Five/Six News 

A Busy Start to the Term

It has been a busy and productive start to the term in Year 5/6!

In Writing, students have been building on their narrative writing skills in preparation for drafting their stories for the Writers' Festival in Term 4. We have been exploring the key elements of engaging narratives, including character development, setting and the use of descriptive language. Students are excited to begin creating their own narrative stories and showcasing their writing to an audience later in the year.

In Humanities, students have started a unit focused on systems of government. They are learning about how Australia is governed, the roles and responsibilities of different levels of government, and how democratic processes help shape our communities. Students have been asking thoughtful questions and making connections between government decisions and their everyday lives.

In Mathematics, students have been exploring a range of strategies to solve problems involving decimals and fractions. They have been applying the four operations; addition, subtraction, multiplication and division to real-world contexts and developing their ability to select efficient strategies, justify their thinking and communicate their mathematical reasoning.

Reminders:

• Students should be engaging in home reading every night. Please ensure that diaries are signed correctly, including the name of book and a parent/guardian signature for each night of reading completed. 

• iPads to be charged adequately for school each day (at least 70%) to support student activities in the classroom.
