Year Three/Four News
Reading
This week, we have been building our prior knowledge of ideas and topics that will relate to our class novel 'No Words', written by Maryam Master. This has included learning about who refugees and bystanders/upstanders are, before looking at what slam poetry is later in the week. By building the students' prior knowledge about these ideas, they will be better supported to understand the events from the text, which we will jump into next week.
Writing
One of our favourite events on the calendar each year is the Writers' Festival, where students are provided the opportunity to showcase their narrative writing skills with friends, family and the wider school community. This week, each students has selected a genre for their writing piece, before exploring the various writing skills that can be utilised in our writing to make it more engaging, with a particular focus on characters.
Maths
Students have been developing their knowledge of multiplication strategies for the first couple of weeks of Term 3, including arrays, doubles and area models. Students have also been working on building their knowledge of multiplication facts, practising on Times Tables Rockstars each day.
Reminders:
- In the classroom, 'fidgets' can be used as a tool to support focus and engagement during learning time. We are noticing an increased number of these in our classrooms but many are not being used for their intended purposes. If you can please support our classroom by ensuring fidgets are safe and remain free from toxic chemicals, are non distracting to others as well as small.
- Students should be engaging in home reading a minimum of three times each week. Please ensure that diaries are signed correctly, including the name of book and a parent/guardian signature for each night of reading completed.
- iPads to be charged adequately for school each day (at least 70%) to support student activities in the classroom.
- All personal items should be named, including jumpers, beanies, etc, to ensure items don't get lost.
