Performing Arts News

Grade prep, one and two are busy learning dance moves for their scenes in The Lion King Production. The art crew continues to meet weekly to make backdrops and sets for the show. A new crew of IT students have begun making brochures, flyers, posters and videos to promote our special show. The cast meets daily to run lines and practice actions in scenes. We welcome Evy from grade 4 to the cast! Thank you to everyone who is assisting.
In prep we have been using our voices to make high and low sounds. Students performed the play The Three Little Pigs and recited the lines ‘Not by the hair of my chinny chin chin’ in a high voice and ‘Little pig, little pig let me in’ in a low voice.
In grade 1 we learnt a song called ‘Ipsy Wipsy Spider’, in which we played ascending and descending notes on a glockenspiel to show the spider climbing up and falling down. We improvised with various styles of hats and became characters such as police, construction, witch, pirate, etc.
In grade 2 we learnt a song called ‘If You Want’ and sang in different styles such as country, opera and jazz. Students played corresponding notes on a glockenspiel to match the tempo of the song. The grade improvised with various hats such as police and witch. They had to become their chosen character and interact with other characters along the way like a witch putting a spell on a fireman and then being arrested by a police officer. It was very entertaining.
