Performing Arts News

Welcome to Performing Arts 2026

The Performing Arts Centre continues to thrive as a vibrant hub of creativity, filled each day with the energy of music, drama, dance and production rehearsals. It is wonderful to see students so engaged, collaborative and enthusiastic in their learning - it truly is a dynamic and inspiring environment.

Our sincere thanks go to the dedicated staff who generously give their time during lunchtimes and after school to support rehearsals and performances.

We are proud to welcome our 2026 Performing Arts Leaders and look forward to presenting their badges at the upcoming awards ceremony. With such passionate and talented students involved, it promises to be an exciting year ahead for the Performing Arts community.

Rehearsals have commenced for the following performance groups.

  • Senior Concert Band
  • Choir
  • Year 8 Concert Band
  • Stage Band
  • Dance Extension
  • Drama Club
  • VSSS
  • Wakakirri

We look forward to an active and enjoyable year that provides our Performing Arts students with opportunities to perform and develop skills in their chosen area.

Instrument Sign-Up

On Wednesday 18 February the music department held an instrumental sign-up session for all Year 7 students. We were delighted to receive over 100 expressions of interest from students wanting to learn an instrument.

We will be holding try-out sessions after camp. Any student wanting to continue learning an instrument will come home with a form outlining the details. These sessions will be visible on Compass schedules after camp.

If any students missed out, please come over to the Performing Arts office at any time.

Big Band Sunset Festival

On a beautiful Saturday afternoon in February, the Patterson River Secondary College Stage Band rocked the Big Bands Sunset Festival in Mordialloc! This festival is one of Melbourne's premier big band festivals, featuring performances from local and national swing groups and big bands. The festival also provides important performance experiences for school bands from across Melbourne. We were very privileged to open the proceedings for the day and we thank all the parents for coming out to cheer us on!
