Design Technology
Students in the STEM Centre have made a creative start to a variety of subjects on offer including Design Technology and Digital Technologies subjects at all levels. Year 7 students, new to Patterson River Secondary College, have been completing safety inductions and isometric drawing skills. They have now transitioned into the Folio design development stages of the first project, the Wooden Box.
Year 8’s have also completed safety and orthogonal drawing skill work. They will transition into folio design development for their first project, an Architecturally Designed House. Year 8 Electives, STEM (Race Cars), Retro Metal (Copper Bowl) and Make It With Timber (Chopping Boards), have completed design work and are now underway on the tools. At Year 9, students are starting to stencil their Tote Bags (Textiles), prototype phone docks (Digital Technology), complete design development for LED Lamps (Resistant Materials) and Metal Sculptures (Metal). Year 10 students have also completed folio design work and starting their projects – Metal (Furniture) and Wood (Cabinets) and Systems Engineering.
There are big numbers in the senior STEM classes this year. VCE VM students are starting to construct a Dartboard Cabinet, Year 11’s are now prototyping a collaborative Space Saving Product and Year 12’s are working through individual projects via folio development. Systems Engineering students at Year 11 and 12 are also commencing their first projects.
We look forward to seeing students' progress and projects throughout the year to come.
